BFTB NETWoof News August 5, 2019

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the week of August 5, 2019. Well, if there was ever a need for some good news, this is the week. Humans have not made it very easy here in the United States. Pierre, what do we have to put a smile on our readers’ faces today?”

Pierre Westie: “We actually have the purr-fect top story that had tails wagging in our newsroom.
There is a Maine Coon cat living in Pennsylvania that is kicking litter over the myth about cats not liking water. Tissy is a five-year-old rescue who enjoys a dip in the family’s pool at least once a week.

She used to watch her human sister swim and decided it looked fun. The two are best friends that love doing everything together. Tissy likes to take a soothing bubble bath too. You can follow her on Facebook at WaterKitty.”

Bentley: “Cats brought a lot of grins this week because this story is about cats working for room and board! Seriously, the Ottawa Humane Society Working Whiskers is looking for businesses, farms, breweries, warehouses, and anywhere else that might be having trouble with mice or rats. The companies can adopt cats that are not suitable for a home environment. They provide food, water, and vet care plus any socialization the cat desires and in exchange, the cats take care of their rodent problem. This program is a wonderful way to save cats that have no other options for forever homes.”

Pierre: “Our first three stories all involve kitties but this last one is a BIG kitty! A woman on Vancouver Island had quite a scare when she realized a cougar was crouched and looking at her. She was walking her dog on their normal route when they encountered the big cat. Her first reaction was to holler at the animal in hopes of it running away. When that didn’t happen, she grabbed her phone and begin to blare ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ by the rock group Metallica. To her relief, the cougar is not a fan of the group and retreated into the bushes. I’m no music critic but I can’t blame the cougar!”

Bentley: “We started looking at this story before we realized it was already ‘a thing’ that is happening around the country. I’m talking about Lobby Dogs in hotels and inns.
The idea is that the hotel owners agree to foster the dogs in hopes of a traveler falling in love and adopting them. The Inn by the Sea in Maine has been responsible for 148 dogs finding their forever homes. I love this idea and would encourage people to frequent establishments that help promote adoptions. Falling in love on vacation? I feel a Hallmark movie coming soon.”

Paisley the Weather Lab: “I love a good Hallmark movie. Let’s see if this week’s weather forecast has a happy ending.
The Pacific northwest will be warm and beautiful. The east coast will be nice but really hot so stay hydrated and check on the elderly and pets. It’s monsoon time in the southwest and people need to take the necessary precautions. The south will be hot and muggy which is to be expected in August. Storms are on tap for our friends in the east, but I do think the weekend is looking good from here! As for the center of the country, there will be scattered storms. The temperatures will be warm, so it is going to be a little steamy. The north looks like it will be sunny so get out and enjoy yourselves.
Just a reminder that weather can change quickly and it’s important to stay up to date with any warnings in your area. I know it’s hot but remember it wasn’t that long ago some of you were longing to thaw out! Have a wonderful week.”
Bentley: “We are getting ready for some temps in the upper 90s here so we will be staying indoors in the air conditioning as much as possible. I’m ready for some of the cooler days of fall.
We have some fun things happening this week on the bayou. Don’t miss Wednesday’s Pet Parade and on Friday we have a fabulous review that includes a giveaway for two lucky winners!!
There are two big holidays this week that you’ll want to celebrate. August 8th is World Cat Day and on August 10th is Spoil Your Dog Day. We here at BFTB News hope that you are planning parties in honor of your best friends this week. Don’t forget our invitations too! Feel free to fetch these pawsome badges from Zoolatry to share on your blog or social media.
Thanks for dropping by today. Take care of yourself and don’t forget to grab yourself some happy.”

  1. There is no way we are celebrating a cat day around here. Our cats just cause trouble! It was a steamy weekend here, and we were out in it a lot, not much fun. This week is supposed to be better weather, and we have our paws crossed. Have a fun week.

  2. We always love your news but were tickled you had 2 Canadian stories and one being local!

  3. Boyz your news is always my favorite...spreading love and smiles on a Monday
    Hugs Cecilia

  4. MOL, we didn't know Metallica's songs were so powerful ! Purrs

  5. Metallica makes me run away too! Lobby Dogs is such a fabulous idea; here's hoping lots and lots of doggies find their furever homes.

  6. We also have to agree with the Cougar...Metallica isn't our favorite either!
    Thanks for the smiles!

  7. Yes, thank you for providing a smile. I heard the Metallica story and had to snicker in agreement. 🎸

  8. We're not big fans of Metallica either. The cougar obviously has better taste in music☺

  9. Thanks for another great news broadcast!

  10. Our cat hates water so much he won't even walk on the morning dew. Can't even imagine a swimming cat. We love the idea of working cats though.

  11. Has been a crazy week--great stories to make everyone feel better! We like the Metallica idea. A shopping centre here had trouble with teens just loitering, not really doing anything but it intimidated shoppers, so they started playing Barry Manilow music than the teens moved on.

  12. Thanks for sharing the news with us. We love the idea of a hotel that fosters pets and they have a better chance of finding there forever home. Hope you are having a wonderful day.
