BFTB NETWoof News September 2, 2019

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello y’all! We are so happy to be back behind the news desk after a couple of weeks off with family. It was great to relax and visit but it’s time to get back to work. Let me begin by wishing everyone in the U.S. a happy Labor Day! Stay safe on the lakes and highways.
We have some great news stories so let me toss it over to my co-anchor Pierre.”
BFTB NETWoof News top story
Pierre Westie: “Thanks and welcome to a brand new BFTB NETWoof News. Our top story is a reunion eleven years in the making.

Animals seem to instinctively know when someone is kind and that must be what brought Tiger to the yard of Carol O’Connell, a worker at the Dutchess County SPCA in New York. The stray would show up for some food then disappear for months at a time. This went on for three years until Tiger finally trusted Carol and her son enough to allow them to get close. On a whim, she decided to bring a scanner home to check for a chip and sure enough, the cat was chipped and registered!
Can you imagine the shock of receiving a phone call to tell you that the cat you lost eleven years ago is alive and well? It turns out that Tiger escaped after being frightened on Halloween over a decade ago at the tender age of three. The family searched, put up flyers and when they moved, told the new owners to please keep an eye out for their sweet kitty. Eventually, they had to accept that Tiger was gone.
When the call came that Tiger was still very much alive, his mom rushed over to the shelter to see her long-lost cat. It didn’t take long before Tiger was cuddling on her shoulder. We are happy to report that Tiger has once again settled into domestic life and is an indoor cat once more.”

Bentley: “Sometimes the kindest of strangers can mean the difference between life and death for animals. Our next story is a different kind of rescue and we are so happy to share it.
Monte was a typical terrier mix dog that was living at HALO Animal Rescue in Phoenix. That is until Hollywood came calling! Maybe it is his super-friendly personality, his love for people and giving kisses or the dreamy look in his eyes but whatever it is was, the talent scouts picked him to star in the new Disney remake of Lady and the Tramp
We are so excited to see the movie this fall. Monte is a great lesson about never giving up!”

Pierre: “Well, this might blow your mind, but my next story is about a cat that is also named Tiger!! This Tiger has just set a record by becoming the oldest living cat in the United States when he celebrated his 31st birthday. Isn’t that fantastic?
Tiger’s owner received him in 1996 from an ex-girlfriend who had him since 1989. Being a senior hasn’t slowed him down too much. He enjoys dry kibble, only drinks from the bathtub and likes to go outside and sit on the car.
Happy birthday, Tiger. We should all be so lucky!”

Bentley: “I’m very excited to announce that Delaware has become the first no-kill state for shelter animals. That is fur-bulous news and we hope it is the first of 50 to make this a no-kill nation. If it can happen there, it can happen anywhere but it’s up to us to speak up and tell our lawmakers that being homeless and unloved should not be a death sentence for dogs and cats. Way to be pawsome, Delaware!
Let’s check in with Paisley for the weather forecast. What’s up with Hurricane Dorian?”
BFTB NETWoof Weather Hurricane Dorian Update
Paisley the Weather Lab: Dorian has amped up to a category 5 hurricane and is nothing to take lightly. We are very concerned about the Bahamas because they are going to receive the full force of this massive storm.
It appears as of Sunday afternoon that the Florida coastline is still in danger from high winds and storm surges. The Carolinas could be where this hurricane decides to make landfall. This is expected to happen by midweek. Hopefully, it will have lost some steam and be downgraded by that time. I can’t emphasize strongly enough the importance of being prepared. We have a post that you can refer to for Pet Hurricane Preparedness.
The rest of the United States is going to be pretty tame compared to the east coast but there will be a few storms rumbling across the center of the country. Those of us in the south and west should have a nice week with temperatures a tad bit cooler.
Please pay close attention to any warnings, evacuation notices, or changes in the path of Hurricane Dorian. We are sending our love and prayers to y’all.”
Bentley: “Thank you for stopping by for your weekly dose of BFTB NETWoof News. We hope that you’ll share our news with your friends and family through social media. There are share buttons on the bottom of our post.
We have some fun things to share with you this Wednesday and Friday so stop back to see what’s up on the Bayou. Have a wonderful day and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”
