Is Coconut Oil Good For Dogs?

Have you joined the coconut craze? It has become the go-to drink of choice for many health conscience people. Did you now that it is also great for dogs? I add coconut oil to our Dr. Harvey’s Veg-to-Bowl and Canine Health. They love it and wait to lick the spoon. Coconut oil consists of over 90% saturated fats. The best type of coconut oil is virgin or extra virgin in a glass jar.

Dr. Harvey's Canine Health, beef liver and coconut oil
I rotate coconut oil with Omega 3 fish oil and add it to their meals. To begin your dog on coconut oil, start adding small amounts each day. You ultimately want to provide 1 tsp. of coconut oil per 10 lbs. of body weight. It is recommended to start with ¼ of this amount to avoid loose stools. Of course, it is always best to check with your veterinarian before adding any supplement to your dog's diet.

  2. Our vet says that it raises triglycerides and it alters bloodwork and it should be used externally instead so mom stopped feeding it to us.

  3. Mom only gives me a taste of coconut oil now and then. Maybe she should do it more regularly. Or quit complaining about my shedding!

    Love and licks,

  4. My sisters and I love the taste of coconut and Mom uses it sometimes in things for us. It is supposed to be good My mom can't stand the taste of it, so she doesn't get any.

  5. Coconut oil is good for cats too. The mom got some for us, but we haven't taken to it as enthusiastically as Pierre and Bentley.

  6. I know this is good for cats too, I should get some. I had some and attempted to shave my legs with it- slipping hazard. I ended up throwing it away. :)

  7. We just gave Joey dog a pat of butter every day.

  8. Sounds like good stuff!

  9. Yup, we've joined the craze! Luke and Cricket will lick it right off a spoon, but Sheba doesn't really care for it. So I just add some to her homemade meal toppers and she gets hers that way. I like to use it as a moisturizer for myself! I tried cooking with it once but didn't really care for the taste.

  10. WE get Coconut Oil in our Supper... EVERY night. Mom has even used it on our Teefs Brush.. We like it ALMOST as much as our Chicken Flavored Teefs Paste.. butt when she does THAT... she doesn't put any in our Foodables..

  11. I've also used coconut oil topically on Liam's inflamed skin. It smells wonderful and it's oh-so soothing. He doesn't enjoy eating it, so we leave it out of his food. But he loves a good rubdown.
