Today is National Kids and Pets Day! If you have one, I hope you
have the other. There is increasing evidence that
household pets might have a major influence on child development as well as a
positive impact on children’s social skills and emotional well-being.
The important thing to remember is that your child must be taught
how to treat a pet. It doesn’t matter if it is a dog, cat, hamster, bird, or
fish, you must lead by example and actually show your child how to treat the
pet. Here are a few tips to help.

Sunday at the Houston Zoo
We recently spent a
Sunday morning at the Houston Zoo. I have mixed emotions about zoos but the one
in Houston is what every zoo should strive to become. The animals are in
beautiful habitats with plenty of room to roam. There are 6,000 animals being fed, given top-notch medical care, and housed in a safe environment. They
all appeared healthy and content. It was wonderful watching our granddaughters
see the enormous animals in real life!
The flamingo
enclosure was gorgeous!

Happy 8th Birthday Pierre
It
is hard to believe but our little man is turning eight years old today! Pierre
is the happiest dog we’ve ever had, and we have had some incredibly happy dogs.
He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body and loves to play. His attitude is to have
fun, live in the moment, and always smile. Maybe that is why he’s so happy!

Pierre the Flirt
I
have to tell y’all what Pierre did the other day. First of all, I have
mentioned that he has a crush on the female yellow Lab that lives behind us. They
have only met through the fence. I don’t know her parents, so the two are left
exchanging sweet nothings through the pickets.
We were sitting on the patio relaxing while Skipper grilled us some chicken on Monday. The boys were sniffing around in hopes that Dad would drop a piece of meat or that some kids would ride bikes by so they could run and bark. After no action for a few minutes Bentley was making his way back to the porch. All of the sudden Pierre comes racing up to him and begins a wrestling match! Bentley didn’t really want to wrestle but they did their usual snappy jumpy roughhousing. It didn’t last a minute, but it is what happened afterwards that had us laughing.
*A little sidebar…Bentley
does not like her and thinks she deserves his harshest barking.
Okay,
now that I have given you the background story let me tell you what our little
Romeo did to impress his Juliet. We were sitting on the patio relaxing while Skipper grilled us some chicken on Monday. What Do the Bayou Boys Do on Their Days Off?
You
are probably wondering what the Bayou Boys are doing with their extra days off
during the week. I thought it’d be best to show you in pictures.
We did some grillin’ and chillin’ Monday. It was a gorgeous day with a nice breeze. The boys love spending time on the patio under the ceiling fan.

Ears to Dr. Harvey's
Into most dog’s life, a bit of ear trouble must fall. Basset Hounds are notorious for having ear infections. Bentley suffered with them for the first 8 years of his life until I discovered a DIY formula that put an end to his chronic ear infections. This formula is great for his inner ears but does not do anything to keep his long ears free of dirt and ear wax. For that job, I fetch my bottle of Dr. Harvey’s Herbal Ear Wash.
Dr.Harvey’s Herbal Ear Wash is a wonderful alternative to chemical ear washes. It is made in the USA and is anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiviral.
Like most dogs, Bentley watches every move I make. He knows when it is ear cleaning time so when I apply the liquid to the cotton pad, he walks over for his ear wash! Remember, NEVER insert a swab or cotton pad into your dog’s ear canal.

World Party Day
April
3rd is World Party Day! This holiday was created way back in 1996
with the concept that humans (and animals) have the right to joy and peace. It
is meant to support positivity and fun with a worldwide day of partying.
Such
a holiday is at the very heart of what the Bayou Boys believe to be their
purpose in life. We are going to look back at a few epic parties to prepare for
today.
Bentley: “This is a pic from
my 11th birthday. As you can tell, we really enjoy a party! There is
always reason for cake, am I right?!?” |
