• I deserve a gold star for washing, drying, and putting up laundry today.
• Right now, I am loving spending time with our granddaughter.
• The best advice I’ve ever been given is to give your worries to God. He will be awake all night anyway.
• If I had to choose a new first name, it would (still) be Melissa because I love my name.

Grooming on the Bayou

Pierre Westie: “There comes a time in every good-looking Westie’s life when he must face the groomer. The big question for us is which groomer we should choose. Our previous groomer knew Mom and was so good to me. There are a gazillion groomers in the Houston area, so we have searched online and read a bunch of reviews to narrow down our choice. That was the basis for our How to Find the Perfect Groomer post this month.

The BFTB NETWoof News crew decided to do some team bonding this week. Since we are so close to Galveston, they took the news boat and headed for the Gulf waters.
Bentley, Pierre, and Paisley were planning on doing some serious deep sea fishing until they remembered what week it is…

The Value of Greenies

One of the most common complaints I hear from pet parents is how much their dogs hate getting their teeth brushed. It can be a challenge but with some patience and a regular routine, your dog should become more accepting of this important part of dental hygiene.

BFTB NETWoof News July 23, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the week of July 23, 2018. We have some great stories to report and we always try to put a smile on your face. Our top story is a not funny, but it is something you need to know about so let’s get right to it. Pierre?”

Pierre Westie: “That’s right, Bentley. This is a warning to all the dogs that love spending time at the beach. A six-year-old Lab died after a fun-filled day playing at a popular dog beach in Florida. It began with a little diarrhea that evening. He was lethargic the next day but still eating and drinking. It was the third day that things became serious.

How to Find the Perfect Dog Groomer

If you have a dog that requires regular grooming like Pierre, it is so important to find a groomer that you trust. Since moving to Texas, we have only had Pierre groomed one time. That means that it is past time to find our boy a groomer that we love. It is not easy, but we do have some tips that will help. I have several groomers that I am checking on but really need to make a firm decision soon. After all, nobody wants a bad hair day!

Pierre Westie: “I have to admit this is one of my favorite top stories. A senior health center in North County San Diego is using robotic pets to help some of their residents with memory impairment. The program was implemented six months ago when the center bought 12 robotic pets for $100 each.

BFTB NETWoof News July 9, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News and weather for the week of July 9, 2018. We have scoured the world for the best animal news and as always, we have avoided politics 100%. Let’s check in with my co-anchor Pierre for today’s top story.”

Pierre Westie: “This one had us all laughing in the newsroom. It seems two 6-year-old Lab/Mastiff dogs that live on a five-acre farm in Virginia tend to get themselves into mischief. It happened again in June when their owner found a hand-written note in their mailbox from the neighborhood letter carrier. It explained that both dogs had crawled into her truck and ate her lunch which consisted of an egg, some carrots and pumpkin seeds. The letter went on to express concern over the boys’ tummies. She knew her dogs had done wrong, so she bought the letter carrier a gift card to Subway along with an apology from the boys.
In my opinion, letter carriers could pose a threat but if they have edibles on board, then they can’t be all bad! I also think these two dogs will strike again!”

Bentley: “Karma can be deadly. That is what a gang of poachers who illegally entered a reserve in South Africa intent on killing rhinos for their horns recently found out. A pride of lions killed two, possibly three of them. The poachers were armed with high-powered rifles equipped with silencers, an axe, wire cutters and food to last several days.
Rhino horns are used in traditional Chinese medicines and prized for their medicinal value. There is no science to back up these claims but the belief is killing rhinos. Poachers cut off their horns causing them to bleed to death or they just kill them and take the horns. Karma and a pride of lions said, “Not this time.”
Pierre: “We know this embedded Twitter clip is unusual for us but after you watch it, we think you’ll agree that it was necessary! This is a shout-out to all of our feline pals. Stay awesome my friends and always show your human who rules the roost!”

Bentley: “Speaking of our cat buddies, there is always so much talk about dogs during the summer months but remember, cats get hot too! Ideally, cats should be indoors during the hottest part of the day. If that isn’t an option, make sure your cat has access to fresh water and shade. An elevated bed under a patio is nice since it will allow air to flow around your kitty and be out of the direct sun. How does your feline bestie stay cool during these scorching days?
Let’s check with Paisley to find out if any of us get a reprieve from the heat.”
BFTB NETWoof Weather with Weather Lab Paisley
Paisley the Weather Lab: “Hello everyone! Unfortunately, it is going to be another week of high temperatures but some areas will get some rain to help cool things off a bit.
If you look at the map, you’ll see the West Coast and the Pacific Northwest is going to be nice and sunny. The temps will be cooler in Washington state so enjoy yourselves! Across the northern states, it will be warm with isolated storms. Those of you in the Northern Atlantic area will love your nice sunny week.
So where are the storms, you ask? The east coast will see midweek storms and Florida can expect it to be muggy with scattered storms. Most of the southern states will be sunny and hot but scattered showers are always possible along the Gulf Coast. Those of you in the southwest know you are in the monsoon season so keep an eye to the sky for thunderstorms. You also want to be careful during those crazy dust storms! The center of the country will be mostly sunny and hot too. What can I say, it’s mid-summer in America.
Have a great week and always tune into your local stations for weather updates or warnings in your area.”
Bentley: “Thanks for joining us for BFTB NETWoof News. We hope to see you all week as we explore more fun topics and discover new products. In the meantime, have a wonderful day and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

Weekend Fun & Flowers

Hey! Did y’all miss us yesterday? We had some heavy rains during the day on the Fourth of July which caused the cancellation of the holiday parades and concerts. The sun came out in the late afternoon, so we went to our son’s house for ribs. When we arrived home that evening, no power! I didn’t have a post scheduled and the power did not come back on until after 3:00a.m. I will share that post next week. We are also happy to report that all of our neighbors (except for 2) obeyed the no fireworks rule. It was a MUCH quieter holiday.
Today, we are joining 15 and Meowing along with Four-Legged Furballs for Friendly Fill-Ins. Be sure to hop over and visit everyone participating.
• When it is hot, I like to stay inside where it is not hot! Bentley on the other paw loves the heat!
I am looking forward to barbecuing this month.

How to Clean Your Pet's Bowl

Westie drinking from water fountain
Pierre Westie: “MOM!! Bentley is yucking up our water bowl. He is definitely backwashing and it is grossing me out.”
Bentley Basset Hound: “Oh, for crying out loud! I was thirsty before I finished my last treat and if a few crumbs got in the water, you should be grateful. Extra treat bits for you!”
Pierre: “I am not trying to be a whiner, but I would prefer fresh drinking water and that includes washing the bowl. You can’t just swoosh the water around and call it clean. I am talking soap and HOT water to clean the bowl inside and out. After all, I have seen some of the places you stick your tongue and it is rather disgusting.”

BFTB NETWoof News July 2, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the first week of July 2018. Can you believe that we are already halfway through the year? It has certainly flown by for us. Let’s get straight to our top story with my co-anchor, Pierre.”
BFTB NETWoof News set with dog anchors

Pierre Westie: “As you mentioned, it’s July and that means it is time to remind everyone that leaving your pet in the car could be the death of them. Seriously, I hate to be so harsh, but it is the absolute truth. When it is 95°F outside, it only takes 10 minutes for temperatures to rise inside a car to 114° and in 30 minutes the temp can reach 129°. That kind of heat is deadly to a dog or cat. We do hate when you leave us at home, but the risk is not worth the ride and we forgive you the instant you come back!”
