BFTB NETWoof News June 17, 2019

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News. We have fetched some great stories to help put a smile on your face. We understand that the human news can be depressing so our news this week is all tail wagging happy!”
Pierre Westie: “Our top story took place in southern California where a small dog had decided to defend his yard from a baby bear. The problem is that baby bears usually come with mama bears and this cub was no exception.
When the mama bear came to defend her baby by attacking the dog, its owner came to defend the pup. Unfortunately, he chose to kick the bear in order to save his dog and the mama quickly turned her attention to him. The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The pup is expected to make a full recovery too.   Both bears were tranquilized and taken for observation before being returned to the hills where they live.”
Bentley: “Kids playing at a park in Denver, Colorado saw a car drive up and put a dog out before driving away. The poor thing roamed the area for six days before people were able to coax her inside. A mother and her son took the dog to the vet who in turn contacted the president of the Front Range Explosives Detection Group because this abandoned dog was a Belgian Malinois. Known for their high energy and love for work, the dog named Karma finished her training in April and is now working with the Denver sheriff’s office as an explosion detection K-9. How’s that for good Karma?”
Pierre: “Most humans love spending fun times with their dogs. It can help relieve the day-to-day stress the human life involves. The problem is that your dog understands you better than you might think. Research in Sweden shows that dogs living with chronically stressed people are also stressed out.
To find the stress levels in the humans and dogs, the researchers measured the concentrated stress hormone cortisol in their hair and fur.  Not surprising the high stressed humans and their dogs both had high levels of cortisol in their hair and fur. Maybe everyone needs to adopt the attitude of their dog instead of the other way around.   When something stressful happens, smell it, kick dirt over it, and go take a nap!”
Bentley: “Speaking of stress…I hate to complain but we had some really bad storms yesterday and I didn’t like them one bit. The reason that I bring this up is not only because it is almost time for our weather report but because storms and fireworks are going to become more frequent as we head into summer.
That means you need to keep a supply of Treatibles® on hand. Yesterday I took two single-serving blister packs several hours apart. It helped me not be so nervous during the hardest parts of the storm. Y’all, the wind was blowing so hard that it blew over our huge night blooming jasmine planter! Normally, I would have lost my mind over all the racket, but it wasn’t so scary after the Treatibles oil started working. The bottom line is that if your dog or cat has anxiety over storms or fireworks, I recommend Treatibles in the oil or chews. It has changed my life.
Now, let’s see if I’m going to need more this week. Paisley?”
Paisley the Weather Lab: “Hi everyone. We are welcoming summer this Friday although the heat in some areas make it seem as though it's been here a few weeks!
We are really going to be feeling the heat in the west and the south with hot and humid days. Our friends to the north and east will be experiencing even more rain. Hopefully, the summer months will give y’all a chance to dry out from all the soaking rains this spring.
Have a wonderful week and be sure to keep an eye to the sky and ear to your local weather forecasts.”
Bentley: “Thank you for joining us this week for more good news. We’d love for you to share our blog with your friends on social media.
We hope to see you again on Wednesday and Friday for more fun. Pssst, we have a super-duper contest starting soon with Dr. Harvey’s!!
There are also some important holidays to remember this week and we have badges to help you celebrate!
They might not be our favorite people to visit but we sure are thankful for our vets!
I ask you, is there anything better than a box?

Celebrate International Box Day this Wednesday.
Have a wonderful day and be sure to grab yourself some happy!”

Dear Dad

Sunday is Father’s Day in America and we hope all of the dads out there have a great weekend. The Bayou Boys wanted to pen a special letter to their dad and asked if they could share it here.

Dear Dad,
Happy Father’s Day! Pierre and I felt we should get together and write this letter to let you know how much we love you. You are the best dad a dog could ask for and we are very glad that you belong to us.

Take 5 for your Pet's Health

How often do you wash your dishes? Most likely the answer is after every meal. Can you imagine having to eat all of your meals out of one dish that hardly ever got washed? It sounds gross and certainly not something that we would enjoy. Now ask yourself when was the last time that you washed your pet’s food and water bowls out with soap and hot water. If it is longer than yesterday, please stop reading this, take five minutes and go wash them. I’ll wait for you. Thanks, they’ll appreciate it. Okay, let’s talk about why it is so important to clean your pet’s bowls.

BFTB NETWoof News June 10, 2019

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the week of June 10, 2019. We are so glad to have you here. Let’s toss it over to Pierre for our top story.”
Pierre Westie: “Thanks, Bentley. We reported about the possibility of New York becoming the first state to ban declawing cats except in case of medical necessity. That means no more declawing because the cat scratches the furniture! We are happy to update you with news that lawmakers passed the bill and it is waiting on Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s signature. Seriously, can you imagine any public official NOT signing a bill that would end the senseless torture of cats? I think not. We will, of course, let you know when it is law.”

Pierre vs. the Burrs

Pierre loves to go outside and roll in the clover where these burrs are hiding. His fur is like Velcro® to these prickly nuisances. We picked over 80 from his face alone! Now, you’d think that he’d learn his lesson, but he has not and will continue to get them. In the backyard, there is a tiny little spot where they grow but he can find it each time he goes out! Thankfully, they are almost gone. He does sit perfectly still while we pick each one out.

Anatomy of a Walk

We are always super happy to go on a walk. Today was no different. There were things to smell and people to see.

two dogs reporting the news
Pierre Westie: “Summer brings out a variety of animals and not all of them are friendly. Coyotes have become a common sight in many neighbors and most of them will avoid confrontation. That is not always the case so we want to issue a warning to avoid coyotes and never leave your dog or cat out unattended in areas frequented by coyotes.
