Don't Let Your Dog Be Sidelined By Super Bowl Foods

Super Bowl LI is this Sunday, February 5th and it should be a great game between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons. We are huge football fans here on the Bayou so you can bet we will be tuned in and cheering. Super Bowls parties will be held with lots of wonderful food and drinks. It is a tradition that goes back since the first Super Bowl in 1967.

BFTB NETWoof News January 30 2017

Bentley Basset Hound: “Welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News for January 30, 2017. We are proud to be your home for the good animal news that is often overlooked by other news outlets. Here with our top story is my co-anchor, Pierre.”

Pierre Westie: “Zoos in the United States are making Twitter a happier place by posting the Great National Cute Animal Tweet-Off. There are so many adorable photos of animals that you can’t help but smile. After all of the depressing and angry tweets that we have endured, this is such a welcome relief. If you’d like to follow the fun, use the hashtag #cuteanimaltweetoff. If you need a smile, this is the hashtag to follow.”

How to Prevent Ear Infections in your Dog

Bentley spent his first 8 years constantly battling ear infections. We spent a fortune on vet visits where he would get shots, drops, and pills. The infection would go away for maybe a month or two.
A Basset Hound's ears are one of their most distinctive features.
It was obvious when his ears were infected. He would begin with shaking his head and scratching at his ears. When I lifted his long beautiful ears, they would be red and stinky. Our wake-up call came when our veterinarian recommended surgery. We decided to get a second opinion and opted not to have the surgery. After he finished his medications and the vet gave him the all clear, I began a new regiment. It has now been ONE YEAR since he had any ear trouble. Believe me, that is a miracle and a blessing.

Our Three Favorite Dog Toys

Bentley and Pierre have more toys than necessary. I am a huge failure at getting rid of any. The main reason is because they have “toys du jour” or their favorites of the day. Still, they have some that they love unconditionally 24/7/365. I thought we’d share those with you today in case your best friend is in need of more toys!

This is Bentley’s very favorite toy. We love it because although he enjoys walking around squeaking it, we can’t hear it! It has proven to be very sturdy.

Wooftastic Woofmints

Woofmints Cologne is all natural and terrific smelling
Barking from the Bayou received Woofmints Cologne and Breath Gels in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own and Woofmints is not responsible for the contents of this post.
Bentley: “Hey, Pierre! Check out my new wooftastic Woofmints™ cologne. Don’t I smell amazing?”
Pierre: “You do smell minty fresh. Are you sure that you didn’t get a bath? I can’t catch a whiff of hound dog at all.”
Bentley: “It’s amazing, isn’t it? I just spritzed some of this new cologne and like magic, I smell fresh and minty. It moisturizes and hydrates too. Go ahead and run your paws over my back.”
Pierre: “I see what you mean. Is this a bottle of magic or what?”
Bentley: “According to the label, it is vitamin E, chamomile, aloe vera, and rosemary. It is PH balanced too so you know it is good for my skin.”
Pierre: “I need to borrow a few squirts before we go on our walk today. The girls are going to lose their minds over this scent.
Bentley: “Sure, you can use it. Woofmints cologne is cruelty-free and good for cats too. It is proudly made in the USA along with their Woofmints breath gel caps.”
Woofmints all natural breath mints keep your pup's mouth fresh smelling
Pierre: “I have been enjoying the Woofmints gel caps for fresh breath. They are all-natural, vegan and gluten free. The organic peppermint and parsley oils dissolve in my mouth and tummy so my breath is fresh from within. You should be able to tell a difference after a week of use. I can tell when I breathe into my paw that I have very kissable breath.”
Bentley: “Pucker up girls, the Bayou Boys are here and smelling wooftastic from our mouths to our tails!”

BFTB NETWoof News January 9, 2017

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News for January 9, 2017. We have kept our nose to the ground and fetched some good reports for you. What is our top story, Pierre?”
BFTB NETWoof News top story of cat saving family from house fire
Pierre Westie: “You know that everyone loves a hero so we actually have two tales of heroes this week. Since we enjoy sharing the best of animal stories, our choice for the top story is about a cat that is credited with saving his family from a mobile home fire. There were no working smoke detectors in the Washington single-wide but their cat woke them up. All three people and the cat made it out in time. That is what I call a purr-fect hero.”

PrideBites PAWtner Pride

Bentley Basset Hound spraying our fence while Pierre Westie sits guard.
When I first began Barking from the Bayou, the thought of being an affiliate for a company was far, far away. Then, I discovered PrideBites™ and fell in love. It has been 3 years since I became a PAWtner with them. It has been a wonderful experience. Over the years, the company has grown from a group of college friends with a love of dogs and an awesome toy to a well-respected growing company. They have expanded the product line which now includes clothing, collars, leashes, blankets and beds. You might have seen them on a recent episode of Shark Tank where they landed a deal with not one but two sharks!

It is Time to Walk Your Dog

January is National Walk Your Dog month and the perfect way to kick off a new year. Exercise is important to both humans and dogs so why not take a walk together? Your pooch will appreciate it and you will feel better too.
Here are a few things to keep in mind before beginning an exercise program with your dog.

BFTB NETWoof News top story of a dog protecting his friend from a train

Pierre: “Happy New Year! We have a story of true friendship to kick off the broadcast. A dog in the Ukraine was injured and stuck on railroad tracks. His best friend stayed with him and would protect him when a train came over by holding his head down. The dogs were successfully rescued and returned to their owner. Both dogs are recouping well from their ordeal. Bentley, I’m sure that I could count on you for such protection, right?”
