Did you know that your pet needs one ounce of water for each pound of body weight every day? Just like in humans, drinking enough water is important for your pet’s health. July has been designated as Pet Hydration Month by PetSafe® so it is a great time to see if your pet has a drinking problem!

Why Is Pierre Dog-Tired?
We are so happy that our son, daughter-in-law and grandbaby are visiting us. Of course, the boys are thrilled to have them here. Pierre is certain that it is his responsibility to monitor the baby’s every move. He barely slept last night because he was listening for her to wake up. Of course, like any new “mother” he is dog- tired today!

When Someone You Love Has Cancer
Let me start off by letting you know that this is not my regular fun blog post. I have thought about what I wanted to say today for over half a year. There really aren’t words to express the combination of love, pride, and sadness that I want to convey but I am going to try.
How do you express your feelings when someone that you love is faced with cancer? My first reaction was disbelief but that was quickly replaced with anger and extreme sadness. I’m sure that most people experience those same feelings. I don’t know if I would react differently if the person affected were older or lead an unhealthy lifestyle but that is not the case.
My beautiful, sweet, funny 28-year-old niece Kelsey was diagnosed with colon cancer in January. How could someone who is just starting their adult life have to face such a cruel diagnosis? It is simple. Cancer has no age limit. Cancer sucks. Cancer is not fair. Cancer is stupid.

Blue Lightning Strikes the Bayou
I first met the awesome people from Lucy Pet Products™ at the 2014 BlogPaws™ conference. Lucy Pet is family-owned and the founder, Joey Herrick started The Lucy Pet Foundation. They are so nice and when I learned about all of the amazing work they do for pets, I knew that I’d be a lifelong fan. You might have seen their free spay/neuter and adoption mobile clinics as they travel across the country. They were also one of the stars of this year’s Rose Bowl parade with the longest float which featured surfing dogs! It is easy to fall in love with Lucy Pet for all of the great things they do but the fact that they make incredible pet products makes it even easier.

America Is Beautiful
Yesterday I posted 7 States, 5 Motels, 2 Cars and 1 U-Haul as we moved our son and his family from Washington to Texas. Here are a few thoughts that I took away from the trip.
1. I would have never survived the Oregon Trail in a covered wagon. As I looked out the car window I couldn’t help but think about what the pioneers must have endured as they trudged across the mountains and valleys. They were so brave and determined.
2. The words to America the Beautiful are some of the most accurate of any song.
3. The political landscape of our country might be a mess, but the actual landscape is breathtaking.
Here are a few more photos from our trip.
I hope that you enjoy them.

7 States, 5 Motels, 2 Cars, and 1 U-Haul
Our Weather Lab/Granddog Paisley has been patiently waiting to tell you about her big moving adventure. As you may know, she is our son (Dustin) and daughter-in-law’s (Jackie) Labrador Retriever as well as our grandbaby’s (Emery) best friend. Last year they left Louisiana for Washington State. Dustin wrote a guest post about it titled The Long Winding Road or How to Move Across the Country with Your Dog for me after that experience. A new job offer brought them back down south so my husband (Skipper) and I flew up there to help them move. It was another long and winding road but a lot of fun. I am going to interview Paisley so we can share our experience.

A Visit from the Cheese Fairy
Bentley is a very sound sleeper but being a Basset Hound, his nose never rests. He was asleep when my husband placed some cheese near him. He woke up just as I began to film.

Life's a Snap with ThunderSnap
When night falls on the bayou, Bentley and Pierre are only allowed outside on a leash. It is not that it’s dangerous but Pierre seems to think there are monsters in the corner of our yard that simply aren’t there during the daylight. He starts barking and since it’s always monkey see, monkey do around here, Bentley joins him in the ruckus. That is a good way to make your neighbors hate you and your dogs so it is a leash for both of them after dark.

Our Follow-Up on Dr. Harvey's Paradigm Green Superfood Pre-Mix
Bentley: “We have been eating Dr. Harvey’s new Paradigm Super Green Food Pre-Mix for a couple of months. I thought it was high time that we let you know how it is working and how we feel about it.”
Pierre: “Our initial review was very formal so in case you missed it, be sure to read ‘Introducing Dr. Harvey’s Paradigm Green Superfood Pre-Mix’ for all of the important information. This review is strictly for the dogs!”

How to Take Your Dog from Drab to Fab
If you have a dog that needs to be professionally groomed, there is nothing more important than to find a groomer that you trust. We have taken Pierre to several different shops to have him spruced up. There have been some successes and some definite failures. You would think that grooming a Westie would be a simple cut. Obviously, it is not. We have picked him up to find his ear hair sticking out like Gizmo or his feet shaved super close. Don’t tell him that I said this, but he looked ridiculous!

The Art of Being Irresistible
Pierre and Bentley have mastered the art of being irresistible.
Seriously, how am I supposed to say "no" these faces?

A 4th of July Out of this World Adventure
Bentley: “Here at Barking from the Bayou, Pierre and I have gotten used to the deliveryman stopping in front of the house. We used to think that he was a chainsaw killer and would give him a good barking. Now that we are bloggers, he is usually bringing something really cool for us to review. We have given him permission to enter our perimeter as long as he is carrying boxes.”
Pierre: “I’m pretty sure that he considers himself a very lucky guy. I had to restrain myself on more than one occasion from using my karate skills on him. These paws may look sweet and fluffy, but don’t be fooled. I have a black belt.”
