We all know that dogs and cats get lost but we hope that it never happens to our own pets. The truth is that 10 million pets go missing every year and millions of those are euthanized in high kill shelters. Those are staggering numbers.
How can we keep our four-legged friends from becoming a statistic? There are several things that you should be doing to ensure your best friend doesn’t disappear.

Why Is Pierre Dog-Tired?

We are so happy that our son, daughter-in-law and grandbaby are visiting us. Of course, the boys are thrilled to have them here. Pierre is certain that it is his responsibility to monitor the baby’s every move. He barely slept last night because he was listening for her to wake up. Of course, like any new “mother” he is dog- tired today!

Something's Fishy Around Here

Bentley: “I’ll admit that there is something fishy about today’s post. There is a very good reason. As most pet parents know, fish oil is a great supplement for your pup’s skin and coat. We get it added to our food every single day. I can’t imagine how dry my coat would be without this tasty oil.
We received a bottle of Lipiderm Fish Oil Soft Gels in exchange for an honest review. Barking from the Bayou, LLC only shares products that we believe will benefit our readers. Lipiderm/IVS is not responsible for the contents of this article.

Today I am reviewing Lipiderm® Fish Oil Soft Gels. We received the bottle for large dogs which are for those weighing over 31 pounds. Mom puts them in my dinner and I gobble them right up. They can be given as a treat too.

BFTB NETWoof News July 24, 2017

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to this week’s BFTB NETWoof News. You can always count on us to fetch the good news that other broadcasts overlook. What is our top story, Pierre?”

Pierre Westie: “This is a great story to start off our news. As we all know, homeless dogs have a rough life on the streets. One pup in Alabama was struck by a car and broke his leg. He was picked up

When Someone You Love Has Cancer

Let me start off by letting you know that this is not my regular fun blog post. I have thought about what I wanted to say today for over half a year. There really aren’t words to express the combination of love, pride, and sadness that I want to convey but I am going to try.
How do you express your feelings when someone that you love is faced with cancer? My first reaction was disbelief but that was quickly replaced with anger and extreme sadness. I’m sure that most people experience those same feelings. I don’t know if I would react differently if the person affected were older or lead an unhealthy lifestyle but that is not the case.
My beautiful, sweet, funny 28-year-old niece Kelsey was diagnosed with colon cancer in January. How could someone who is just starting their adult life have to face such a cruel diagnosis? It is simple. Cancer has no age limit. Cancer sucks. Cancer is not fair. Cancer is stupid.

Blue Lightning Strikes the Bayou

Barking from the Bayou, LLC received Lucy Pet Products Blue Lightning Shampoo and Leave-In Conditioning Spray free in exchange for an honest review. We only share products that we love and feel will benefit our readers.
Lucy Pet is not responsible for the contents of this article.
I first met the awesome people from Lucy Pet Products at the 2014 BlogPaws™ conference. Lucy Pet is family-owned and the founder, Joey Herrick started The Lucy Pet Foundation. They are so nice and when I learned about all of the amazing work they do for pets, I knew that I’d be a lifelong fan. You might have seen their free spay/neuter and adoption mobile clinics as they travel across the country. They were also one of the stars of this year’s Rose Bowl parade with the longest float which featured surfing dogs! It is easy to fall in love with Lucy Pet for all of the great things they do but the fact that they make incredible pet products makes it even easier.

America Is Beautiful

Yesterday I posted 7 States, 5 Motels, 2 Cars and 1 U-Haul as we moved our son and his family from Washington to Texas. Here are a few thoughts that I took away from the trip.
1.  I would have never survived the Oregon Trail in a covered wagon. As I looked out the car window I couldn’t help but think about what the pioneers must have endured as they trudged across the mountains and valleys. They were so brave and determined.
2.  The words to America the Beautiful are some of the most accurate of any song.
3.  The political landscape of our country might be a mess, but the actual landscape is breathtaking.
Here are a few more photos from our trip.
I hope that you enjoy them.

7 States, 5 Motels, 2 Cars, and 1 U-Haul

Our Weather Lab/Granddog Paisley has been patiently waiting to tell you about her big moving adventure. As you may know, she is our son (Dustin) and daughter-in-law’s (Jackie) Labrador Retriever as well as our grandbaby’s (Emery) best friend. Last year they left Louisiana for Washington State. Dustin wrote a guest post about it titled The Long Winding Road or How to Move Across the Country with Your Dog for me after that experience. A new job offer brought them back down south so my husband (Skipper) and I flew up there to help them move. It was another long and winding road but a lot of fun. I am going to interview Paisley so we can share our experience.
This is basically the way we traveled

BFTB NETWoof News July 17, 2017

Bentley Basset Hound: “Greetings and thank you for joining us this week. We have rounded up some great reports so let’s get right to it. My co-anchor Pierre has our top story.”

Pierre Westie: “The BFTB NETWoof News top story will have us all feeling a little eel. That’s because a truck in Portland that was carrying 7,500 pounds of slime eels had to make a sudden stop which caused the freight to overturn. What happened next will give me the ‘willies’ for a month! The surrounding cars were covered in slime and eels! A total of 13 shipping containers destined for Korea ended up causing a four car pile-up. The highway was closed for several hours as crews cleaned up the mess.”

Fetch Relief For Your Dog's Itching #GrabTheLeash

We all know our dogs scratch but when the scratching becomes out of control, it is time to take action. Your best friend could have allergies or hot spots which make them itch. When your dog’s itching becomes a problem, what is a pet parent to do?
Sunbathing in the grass makes Bentley happy and itchy
This post is sponsored by Therabis™ and the BlogPaws® Pet Influencer Network™. I am being compensated to help share information about Therabis – Hemp wellness products to help your dog with itching, anxiety and joint mobility. Barking from the Bayou only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. Therabis is not responsible for the content of this article.
My Basset Hound, Bentley suffers from allergies. He loves stretching out in the grass and catching some sun rays. Unfortunately, when he does this, it makes him itch like crazy. On more than one occasion I have been awakened at night by his scratching. That disturbs his rest and mine. Sleep is one of a Basset Hound’s favorite hobbies so waking up due to itching is a major problem. He has even scratched some of the hair off his sides! I am not a fan of using chemicals on him so when I began reading about the benefits of Therabis Cannabinoids or CBD supplements for dogs, I was extremely interested in how hemp could provide Bentley some much needed relief.

Ark Naturals Breath-Less Brushless Toothpaste #ChewyInfluencer

The Bayou Boys are always excited to see Chewy at the door disclaimer
Bentley Basset: “Guess who came to our door this week? That’s right; it was our good pal Chewy and he came bearing one of his famous blue boxes!”
Pierre Westie: “I always love seeing him at the front door. We were super excited to see what he brought us to review this month. Of course, we had to thank him for the pawsome Fourth of July surprise box he brought earlier. It was chocked full of fun things to make our holiday more exciting.”

A Visit from the Cheese Fairy

Bentley is a very sound sleeper but being a Basset Hound, his nose never rests. He was asleep when my husband placed some cheese near him. He woke up just as I began to film.

Life's a Snap with ThunderSnap

I received a ThunderSnap leash in exchange for an honest review. ThunderSnap/ThunderShirt is not responsible for the contents of this article. All opinions are my own. This post also contains Amazon affiliate links.
When night falls on the bayou, Bentley and Pierre are only allowed outside on a leash. It is not that it’s dangerous but Pierre seems to think there are monsters in the corner of our yard that simply aren’t there during the daylight. He starts barking and since it’s always monkey see, monkey do around here, Bentley joins him in the ruckus. That is a good way to make your neighbors hate you and your dogs so it is a leash for both of them after dark.

BFTB NETWoof News July 10, 2017

Bentley Basset Hound: “Greetings and welcome to another week of BFTB NETWoof News. We have fetched the best news from around the world to start your week with a smile. What is our top story, Pierre?”

Pierre Westie: “This story quacked us up! Four ducks were ‘arrested’ in Great Bend, Pennsylvania on the Fourth of July. The troublemakers were charged with loitering in front of a local gas station. The group was enjoying handouts from the station’s customers and didn’t seem to be in any hurry to waddle away. They were returned to their owners and are once again content to swim in their pond.”

Pierre: “Our initial review was very formal so in case you missed it, be sure to read ‘Introducing Dr. Harvey’s Paradigm Green Superfood Pre-Mix’ for all of the important information. This review is strictly for the dogs!”

How to Take Your Dog from Drab to Fab

If you have a dog that needs to be professionally groomed, there is nothing more important than to find a groomer that you trust. We have taken Pierre to several different shops to have him spruced up. There have been some successes and some definite failures. You would think that grooming a Westie would be a simple cut. Obviously, it is not. We have picked him up to find his ear hair sticking out like Gizmo or his feet shaved super close. Don’t tell him that I said this, but he looked ridiculous!

A 4th of July Out of this World Adventure

The Bayou Boys on window patrol
Bentley: “Here at Barking from the Bayou, Pierre and I have gotten used to the deliveryman stopping in front of the house. We used to think that he was a chainsaw killer and would give him a good barking. Now that we are bloggers, he is usually bringing something really cool for us to review. We have given him permission to enter our perimeter as long as he is carrying boxes.”
Pierre: “I’m pretty sure that he considers himself a very lucky guy. I had to restrain myself on more than one occasion from using my karate skills on him. These paws may look sweet and fluffy, but don’t be fooled. I have a black belt.”

Bentley Basset Hound: “Greetings and welcome back to the best feel-good news on the web! We have had quite an adventure over the past two weeks but things are settling down and we are back in the newsroom. I’m sure we will have a post to tell you all about what has been going on with us and Paisley but for now, let’s get to our top story.”
