Happy birthday, Bentley! Our boy is turning ten today and we are celebrating with a look back at 

The Bentley Decade

Bentley came into our lives after a friend received him as a surprise birthday party gift. As I’m sure most of you do at parties, I spent the entire time loving on the 10-week-old Basset Hound. 

A couple of days passed, and our friends decided they weren’t ready for a puppy. He offered the wrinkly puppy to us. Honestly, how could we say “no” to that face? We had already decided that he needed a cool name and Bentley seemed like a great fit. 

When he would walk, he used to step on his ears. It was ridiculously adorable! Bentley lived with us a few days before Skipper noticed the #7 on his side. I quickly counted our dogs and realized he was our 7^th! Obviously, we were meant to be family.

Bentley was fortunate to learn the tricks of the puppy trade from our wonderful Golden Retriever, Tucker. Those two were best friends for six years until Tucker went to the Rainbow Bridge.

The Decade of Bentley has been filled with a lot of fun adventures. He has been on the local news at the Mardi Gras parade. I think he knows how cute he looks dressed up in costumes. He never minds strutting around in them. He is quick to make friends with people and has never turned down a belly rub. As a matter of fact, he will go belly-up at your feet for added convenience.

Bentley loves to play and be the neighborhood watch dog. It is not unusual to find balls or toys on the window sill. Of course, he feels that some of his nose art should be in a museum not cleaned with Windex!

When Pierre came to live with us, Bentley acted like a puppy again. They played chase and wrestled throughout the day. Here we are four years later, and they still play like pups. I attribute it to their diet of Dr. Harvey’s. Bentley looks better today than he did at six years old. We like to say that 10 is the new 7.

The Bayou Boys love a road trip whether it is to the local park or a three-day trek. We have traveled to Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Arkansas, Tennessee, and a lot of Louisiana roads.

As he hits this milestone, Bentley is looking forward to a breakfast of Paradigm with eggs and sardines. I know how it sounds but believe me, he LOVES it! We have some presents for him and I am baking a bone-shaped peanut butter cake. Party photos will come later in the week unless it gets too wild…don't let that white hair fool you!

The Decade of Bentley has been amazing! We are so thankful that he is such a big part of our lives. This new year should bring a lot of new adventures and we are excited to have him by our side. It is great to share him with all of you too.
