A Trip to the Vet

Westie at vet
Pierre Westie: “Y’all are not going to believe what we were forced to endure on Monday. Mom and Dad took us to the V-E-T. It all started a few days ago when I began scratching and rubbing my right ear. Mom examined it but didn’t notice anything unusual and there was no foul odor. Still, after watching it over the weekend, they decided I needed to see the doctor. I feel better sitting in Mom’s lap in the office.”

Bentley Basset Hound: “I came along for moral support and a pedicure. I don’t mind visiting the vet because they are always very nice to me. My nails are black and super thick, so I’ve always had the vet cut them. We went to a groomer once for a nail clipping, but it made me really nervous. It makes me feel better to know a doctor is available in case they cut my quick!”
Mom: “Both of the boys do great at the veterinarian. Pierre has a yeast infection in his right ear. The vet packed it with a waxy medicine and there is nothing else we need to do for him. It should clear right up and I will make sure that he keeps his ears dry and clean.
I use the Purple Stuff in Bentley’s ears every month and he has not had an ear infection in over four years. I don't put it in Pierre’s ears because he’s never had an ear infection and pouring a purple liquid that will stain into a white dog’s ear just seemed a bit risky! Believe me, I won’t hesitate to use it if I suspect he’s going to have ear troubles.”
Pierre: “Dr. Cole said I’m very healthy other than my ear and I lost a few pounds! Mom and Dad say there is nothing sadder than a happy Westie when he’s feeling bad. Hopefully, I’ll be back to running, barking and playing tomorrow.”

  3. Hope your ear feels better soon. You know we have a lot of white, and the underside of some of our ears are white, but we use the purple stuff. Worst case scenario, the white furs are lavender for a couple hours, but then like magic, they are back to normal. Never had any staining that lasted longer than that here.

  13. We have the vet do our nails too - always better to be safe than have that nail clipped too short.

We hope Pierre's ear clears up asap.

  14. Yay Pierre! Glad you have an observant Mama and that you are on the mend! My Mom knows what you mean when you said it is sad seeing a happy dog not feeling well. That's how we feel with Dakota! Tell Mom, my Mom uses a purple shampoo for HER white hair and it washes right out, but since that stuff isn't shampoo, your Mama is probably right that it would be risky to use on a white dog. My Mom also has my nails clipped at the Vet too, just to be safe. Barks and licks and love, your pal, Dakota xoxo
