Here on the bayou, we went for three months without rain. It was nice because we never had to deal with the “wet dog” smell. Bentley and Pierre didn’t need a bath every week so that was great! The change of seasons has brought torrential downpours and the return of the dreaded wet dog. That means more baths. Bentley has always enjoyed his bath time. Pierre, on the other paw, has considered it a form of waterboarding. It has taken two years, but I am proud to say that he now volunteers to go first. That’s right; I ask them who wants to go first. It is pretty funny to watch them decide because there is definitely communication going on between them.
Now that baths are becoming more frequent, it is important that I don’t use any harsh shampoos or any with harmful chemical additives. Thankfully,
Dr. Harvey has created two proprietary blends that are all-natural. There is an Herbal Shampoo and an Herbal Protection Shampoo. Both are detergent-free with no sulfates, parabens, artificial colors or fragrances. Bentley and his sensitive nose are especially happy there are no strong perfumes.
*Notice that Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) is not among the ingredients. You will find it in many skin products that foam. Did you know that animals exposed to SLS can experience eye damage, depression, trouble breathing, diarrhea, severe skin irritation and in some cases, death? It can remain in their body for up to five days and maintain residual levels in the major organs. Be sure and check your labels!
These herbal shampoos will make suds but are easily rinsed out of short or long-haired dogs. Both leave them feeling soft without drying their skin. I've noticed that they aren’t itchy after bathing. That has been a problem with other shampoos.
Dr. Harvey's products are earth-friendly and biodegradable so you can bathe your dog outside without feeling guilty. Of course, like all of their products, they are made in the U.S.A. and never, ever tested on animals.

Oh this sounds awesome for pug spa!!
ReplyDeleteThose sound like awesome products!
ReplyDeleteWe will NOT be showing this post to Mom - we don't not any excuse for her to start thinking about giving us baths :)
ReplyDeleteSHE! sniffed on my fur immediately after reading your post. Butt fortunately she has the sniffles and so I'm safe for a while... at least I hope I'm safe lol
ReplyDeleteIf Mom asked Bailie and I who wants to go first, we would be out of there so fast! We are not bath fans! This time of year we don't get baths that often as with the cold weather everything is frozen and there isn't much dirt to get into plus it is so cold. Mom doesn't like us to be all wet.
ReplyDeleteYou boys do look adorable in your towels, I must say!
ReplyDeleteI think I can smell how good you two smell. What a great bath time.
ReplyDeleteOk, those are awesome bath pictures!! And Dr. Harvey's has some good stuff. Wet dog smell. Yikes. Cocoa likes her baths and I like clean dog!!
ReplyDeleteWe have the Herbal Protection formula and love it. For a while Mabel was getting baths very frequently and mom would use this in between using Benzoil Peroxide shampoo to open her pores to flush out the mites

I noticed there was catnip oil in the ingredients. Does that make your dogs more attractive to cats? ;-)

ReplyDeleteWow, I can't imagine volunteering for bath time! Well, that stuff must be pretty good. I know my peeps hate it when they say I'm all stinky, but I love it. BOL Great pix of your scrub-a-dog-butt time.

Kilo is not a fan of baths but the shampoo looks great. Love the photos of the boys. XS
ReplyDeleteYikes, I'd better check some of my older shampoos for that SLS. We're due for baths around here too. These shampoos sound great and I'll definitely keep them in mind next time we need some.
ReplyDeleteJan, Wag 'n Woof Pets
Those shampoos sound great...but thank cod we don't get baths!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds great! My skin is insanely sensitive, so it'd be nice to have something that didn't leave me with a rash all over my hands after washing the dogs. I'll check this out!
ReplyDeleteWhat great pics! I've heard excellent things about Dr. Harvey's. Thanks for the review!
