We're Left Kong-fused

dog toys under Christmas tree
Bentley Basset: “Hello! It’s our first post since the howlidays and we hope that 2020 has been awesome for y’all so far. We thought we’d share our Christmas with an update on our toys that have left us very Kong-fused.”

Pierre Westie: “As you can tell, we were really good boys so Santa Paws left us some nice things. Before anyone gets upset, yes, that is a Flexi retractable leash. We ONLY use them when we go in the backyard at night, so we don’t bark at absolutely nothing and wake up the neighbors. Mine has been short and Bentley has enjoyed the 26’ one. It didn’t seem fair so I asked for a new one. Sometimes a guy needs a little alone time for his business and 26' is a good length.”
Kong Armadillo
Bentley: “We got this cool-looking armadillo stuffy from Kong® which I’ll admit to having my doubts about its toughness right from the get-go. Not that I’d tear it up but there is a certain Westie who has been known to maim stuffies in the past.”
The death of a Kong armadillo
Pierre: “That’s kinda harsh but I’ll admit that I might have gotten a wee bit carried away. It’s just that the dillo was stuffed sooooo tight that all it took was a couple of bites to sink my teeth into it. Once there, well, what can I say, things happened."

Pierre: "Besides, Mom says that’s how you see most armadillos anyway. Upside down and on the side of the road.”
Bentley: “She also said that Kong armadillo cost $14.99 and lasted less than an hour. It is sitting on her shelf in the office because it is still cool looking and something about getting her money’s worth out of it. I dunno, I thought Kong toys were supposed to hold up a little better than that.”

Pierre: “This triangle toy from Kong lasted a couple of days but did not see 2020. Luckily, Mom and Dad were sitting in the room with me when I chewed this end off. In their defense, Kong does advise to only let your dog play with toys when you are supervising them but seriously, who puts up all the toys when they leave their dogs home alone?
If I had chewed this piece off and swallowed it when nobody was looking, it could have easily blocked my windpipe. Mom was very upset and said it was not about the $8.99 price although that is expensive for a toy that only lasts a few days. This toy could have killed me or sent me into emergency surgery. We would advise anyone with this toy to throw it in the garbage just to be safe.”

Bentley: “I’m happy to say that our blue spikey ball is still intact. We also look quite handsome in our bone collars. They should come in handy when we are trying to impress the girls on our walks. Y’all have a wonderful week and I’m going to protect my birthday Lambchop from Pierre’s teeth.”

  1. oh that armadillo looks very good... but it is no trooper, right? can you imagine that the mama howls "is this the way to armadillo" in our pour ears now?

  2. Thankfully, we are not real toy destroyers. Bailie will rip at her Furballz sometimes but it's nothing dangerous. I love my new music playing rat, but Mom only lets me have it when she is with me just in case someone takes it and tries to get the music maker out of him. Bummer your new toys didn't last long.

  3. I can go through toys pretty fast too. There is no such thing as an indestructible squeaky toy in my house!

  4. Thanks for posting this! Although EVERY toy claims to be "indestructable" there doesn't seem to be one that really is!

  5. I too thought that anything by Kong was almost indestructible...too bad these toys weren't!

  6. Sheesh...those Kong toys don't live up to their name, do they? Love those bone collars-too cute. Happy 2020!

  7. Lately, Mama just says no to any kind of plastic toy...We do have one a new 26 foot flexi lead that has a thicker lead(not the "killer strings") that Mama uses when she takes Arty to the beach on days when no one else is there so he can run around and pretend he doesn't know Mama.

  9. What a shame - Kong toys are so expensive- they should definitely last longer than that!

  10. We hope that you had a wonderful holiday season. We can see that those pawsome kong toys didn't last too long. That is horrible for you. Hopefully, the blue ball, which we have at our house too will be a fun toy to play with. Thanks for the share. Have a wonderful day.

  11. Luke takes any company's claim that their toys are tough as a challenge! He has destroyed two of those supposed ones since Christmas. I have to keep a very close eye on him when he has any toy. Unfortunately, the ones that are truly indestructive? He loses interest in them. The destruction is just part of the fun for some dogs (Luke sends high 5's to Pierre). :)
However, I do often wonder why dog toy manufacturers are not onto this...I swear sometimes that when companies make things they have no idea how they are going to work in the real world.

  12. Those are both major toy fails! Wow! The triangle was so dangerous! And the armadillo was just sad.... He is (was) such a cool looking guy.

  13. Kong toys are usually pretty good. But sometimes no toy can withstand the power of a dog.
