PetSafe and Pet Hydration Month

July is Pet Hydration Month and we are celebrating with our friends at PetSafe®. Providing your pet with clean fresh water is vital for their health and well-being. Did you realize that a dog needs to drink 1 ounce of water for every pound of body weight? Depending on your dog, that can be a lot of water! Of course, you can lead a dog to water, but you can’t make them drink. Getting some dogs to drink enough can be a real problem for many pet parents. Water is necessary to cushion joints and support vital organs. How can a pet parent help?

I recently began using the PetSafe Healthy Pet Water Station. It is perfect for us because Bentley drinks like a camel. This can lead to refilling their bowl two or three times per day. The Water Station is available in small (1/2 gallon), medium (1 gallon) and large (2.5 gallons). I selected the medium and it allows them to drink all day. Bentley drools, so their bowls all get washed every day. That is another great thing about this product, it is dishwasher safe. It is made of BPA-free plastic and the removable bowl is stainless steel. That is what veterinarians recommend as the safest material for food and water bowls. Our new Station is very simple to use. The hour-glass shaped water reservoir is easy to fill. It locks in and the flow-control prevents spills. This is the first gravity water system with a removable stainless-steel tray. It is quiet, doesn’t require electricity, and has an optional water filter that is sold separately.
The Healthy Pet Water Filter is something I felt we needed in our home. We drink bottled water or filtered water from the refrigerator. There are times I don’t care for the way our city water tastes. I know if I don’t like it, the dogs aren’t going to either. Studies show that clean, odor-free filtered water entices pets to drink more. When your body is 80% water that is important. The replaceable activated carbon water filter removes chlorine, sediments and odor from their drinking water. It is healthier and more refreshing to them.

Helpful Summer Tips for Your Dog
*Provide fresh clean water at all times
*Make sure they have access to shade
*Bring them inside where it is air-conditioned
*Rub them with a damp towel
*Exercise and play in the mornings or evenings when it is cooler
* If you cannot hold the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds, it is too hot for your dog to walk on it.
*Carry a bottle of water and collapsible water bowl on walks.

  2. I would definitely purchase the large. My rescue pup is a large border collie/black lab mix. Water is very important, especially in this Texas summer heat!!!

  4. Bailie and I love to drink a lot of water, Katie, not so much. PetSafe has so many different water options, there is one for every pet, I think! We got a fountain one because of the cats, but we haven't posted about it yet.

  5. I have tried a few different kinds of these but Denny just won't go near them - he is such a creature of habit and his water has to be in his bowl. It is a pity as would love to try this as our water smells awful. The other thing with these is they are a pain to wash - a removable bowl section would be great.

  13. This looks great! Our dogs are all good about drinking water. We have a fountain that we love. This one is nice though since it doesn't have to be plugged in.
