Happy Birthday Pierre

"This is my birth announcement. I have arrived!"

When my daughter was getting her Masters at LSU, she called to say that she was getting a new puppy.  I knew how much she missed being around Bentley and Tucker.  A few weeks later, I received a photo of the most precious newborn West Highland Terrier ever.  Little baby Pierre was our first granddog!  He was such a cutie pie and I passed his pictures around like any annoyingly proud Gramma.  It is hard to believe that he is THREE years old today.  Bentley wanted to interview him for his big day.

Bentley:  “Happy birthday Pierre!  How does it feel to be the big 3?

Pierre:  “Thanks Bentley, I feel like a big guy.  Don’t be surprised if I can catch a

squirrel now.  I may even take on those invisible monsters that I see when it’s dark.  You have to treat me as an equal instead of a pup now, ya know?”

Bentley:  “Yeah well, that’s not gonna happen, but it’s a sweet idea.  What are you getting for your birthday?  Did you drop any good hints to Mom and Dad?  You know Dad is wrapped around your little white paw.  I hope you milked that for all its worth.”

Pierre:  “Well, I can’t help it if Gramma and Papaw love me.  Look at me!  I am freakin’ adorable.  Plus, I do a lot of tricks and I fit on their laps.  Old people enjoy that.”  **snicker**

Bentley:  “Hey, I fit in their laps and they aren’t that old!  I don’t like the way this

"I'm a big time LSU fan!"

interview is going.  Let’s talk about your early life.  Then, you can explain how you come you are living here with us.  Where were you born?”

Pierre:  “I was born in Mamou, Louisiana.  That is Cajun Country, so I am a southern Westie!  My mom had reserved me before I was born.  She visited me several times before I was old enough to come back to her apartment with her.  I don’t really remember too much about living with my dog mama.  I kept my eyes closed for the first couple of weeks trying to imagine what my life would be like.  It has turned out even better than my imagination!  Mom taught me all sorts of tricks and put cute clothes on me.  We liked living in Baton Rouge, but we wanted to come home after Mom graduated.”

Bentley:  “Yeah, I remember the first time that we met.  You were a little bitty guy. 

"Bentley & Tucker used to wear me out!"

Tucker and I liked you right off the bat.  You were fun to roll over in the grass.  The only problem I have is that you like to pull my ears.  That’s just not cool.  Of course, you didn’t live with us long that time.  You and Jessica moved to y’alls own apartment.  Still, you did get to come visit all of the time.”

Pierre:  “I always like coming to your house because Papaw calls me “his little boy.”  He spoils me rotten and I love that.  I was born to be spoiled.  Then, Mom fell in love with another boy.  Well, he is

actually a man…a hu-man!  They got married, so now I have a mama and a daddy.  I love him, too.  When they came to visit, he let me sleep on him; he gave me treats, and lots of kisses.  He is perfect for us, so I’m glad he is ours.”

Bentley:  “It’s cool having you here to play with, but aren’t you supposed to live with your parents?  I overheard them talking about it.  Don’t they live in the Arctic Circle or something?  You might get confused for a little Polar Bear!”

Pierre:  “They live in Alaska and I can’t live with them right now.  Daddy is in the Army and their apartment doesn’t really like dogs.  They must like moose though, because I saw a picture with moose in their parking lot.  I am moving in with them this fall.  We are still going to live in a cold place, but not as cold as Alaska.  Will you miss me when I’m gone?”

Bentley:  “Ummm.  Yeah.  I don’t wanna think about it.  Today’s your happy birthday, so I wanna talk about treats, toys, and birthday cookies!  Woo Hoo!  Paw-ty!”

Pierre:  “Well, let’s go get Gramma and Papaw so we can do something fun.  We can share our paw-ty pictures with everyone tomorrow.  I am so excited!  Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday dear meee, happy birthday to me!”

Bentley:  “And many more!  Happy birthday little buddy!”
