Friendly Fill-Ins
This is our first time to join McGuffy’s Reader & 15 and Meowing for their Friendly Fill-Ins blog hop. We are very excited to be a part of this fun hop.
1. My idea of roughing it is French fries without ketchup.
2. I never get sick of talking about my dogs.
3. My youth was thankfully before Facebook!
4. My “Golden Years” are going to be the best years of my life and they start now!
We are joining Da DB Boyz for Flower Friday by sharing our favorite blooms.
Pet and Women’s Safety (PAWS) Act
Did you know there are currently no laws protecting the pets of domestic violence survivors? Women living in violent relationships sometimes stay because they are afraid to leave their pets behind. It is a sad reality that most shelters are not pet-friendly.
Facts
•About 1 million animals are abused each year because of domestic violence.
•Abusers of animals are 5 times as likely to harm humans.
•Up to 65% of domestic violence survivors don’t seek safety because they don’t want to leave their pets. Dr. Michael Roguski with Kaiitiaki Research and Evaluation
•52% of survivors in domestic violence shelters leave their pets behind with their batterers. National Coalition Against Domestic Violence
•Animal abuse is often the first visible sign of domestic violence in the home. RedRover.org
•13% of animal abuse involves domestic violence. RescueInk.org
By supporting the PAWS Act, you can play a part in protecting all survivors of domestic abuse, including pets. Please take a moment to sign the petition and contact your United States representatives to ask for their support.
I’d like to thank Bayer for their help in this worthwhile project. You can follow them on Twitter at @Bayer4Pets for updates and please share this video to rally your friends and family.

I signed the petition and I have the PAWS sticker in my sidebar at PS Annie! now. I am an adult child of domestic violence. Thankfully, our animals were never held as a threat to keep us in line.
Have a blessed Memorial Day weekend. :)
The PAWS act sounds like something we should all get behind. Thanks for sharing it. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad but true that domestic abuse is not just about the humans, pets are included and many are killed.

Camping, Youth and Golden Years – Friendly Fill-Ins for Friday Fun while Celebrating the Small Things
Beautiful flowers. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, sorry I am so late reading them. Fries without ketchup is like coffee without cream or milk. Thank you for the kind words you left on the loss of my Snowball.
ReplyDeleteJust lovely flowers.
