One
of the questions I am often asked after posting a photo of Bentley eating is, "What is on his head?".
It
is a tube-like covering that keeps his ears from getting in his food. It is
called a snood and for long-eared
dogs, it is a miracle.
Before
I discovered snoods, Bentley’s ears were constantly yucky from him dragging
them in his food. That meant I had to use a *Quick Bath after every meal or let
them dry and get the dried food off with a *FURminator. It is so easy to slip a
snood over his head and slide it off after he eats.
If
you watch or attend dog shows, you have probably seen dogs wearing snoods to
keep their ears clean before entering the ring. I’ve seen some with sequins and
others made from silk. Bentley’s are just cotton and have held up for several
years. I do need to order some more since the elastic has stretched some.
I
ordered these snoods from Howlin’ Hounds but *Amazon has a wide selection too. They
would be super easy to make but I’m not much of a seamstress. Maybe I’ll get
inspired and try to sew one but that’ll be a whole other blog post!

we think we need one for Nelly... it seems he has some elephant genes with his giant ears LOL
ReplyDeleteMom thinks about knitting me one when it's zero degrees out so my ears stay warmer. You look so cute in your snoods, Bentley. Love the one with the brim!
ReplyDeleteBailie and I don't have trouble with our ears falling into our bowls and water, but Emma always had stuff on the bottom of her right ear. We think it must be the angle she had when she accessed bowls. If the snood works perfect for you, just don't get snoody ;)
ReplyDeleteI like the snood with the sun visor. LOL Having owned a long-eared, vertically challenged dog I can totally appreciate the invention.

I just love that Snood. So smart and what a wonderful idea. My brother-in-law has to keep his ears covered when he goes out since he just found out they are precancerous. Could a human use it or is there something out there to cover ears completely for a human.
ReplyDeleteThis might be what you are looking for https://amzn.to/2Sxi0RO It is for men/women and looks toasty warm!
DeleteI love the clever ideas that dog owners come up with to make living with dogs more pleasant.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSQUEEEEEE!!!!!!! Neither can we!!!!
DeleteThat snood looks like a great idea. Mom is thinking of ordering one for Dad. Not that he has long ears or anything but...every shirt he owns is like a stain diary of his eating habits.
ReplyDeleteThe snood is such a wonderful invention. We happy that they are coming up with all these amazing ideas. Bentley is so cute with the snood on. Going to get one for my neighbors dog. She is a Shih Tzu with ears that always go into the food bowl. Have a great one.

Never saw one. Never heard of it. But it's brilliant! #cleanears
ReplyDeleteLove and licks,
Cupcake
He looks so cute in those! I remember the tips of Cricket's ears were always crusty with food and impossible to keep clean. She would have looked cute in one of these too. ♥
ReplyDeleteJan, Wag 'n Woof Pets
Luckily we don't have the kind of ears that need snoods, but we think they are a great convenience for floppy long ears like Bentley has.
ReplyDeleteWoos _- Lightning, Misty, and Timber
They look so very fashionable!!

We think you look purrfect in your snood, Bentley. And keeping your ears outta the food dish is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI need a snoof for myself! When it's really, REALLY cold outside, there always seems to be a gap between my throat scarf and my collar, and sometimes the wind blows right down onto my skin! EEEK!
ReplyDeleteThey have them on Amazon! https://amzn.to/2Sxi0RO
DeleteThat is interesting. Very cute too :)
ReplyDeleteSnoods are a great invention!

Hazel & Mabel
You look too cute.
ReplyDeleteWe have a special spaniel water bowl in our house. It has tapered sides so long ears don't get wet while drinking. It's been here in use since Old Charisma's time.
ReplyDeleteThat's an awesome way to keep his ears clean
ReplyDeleteThis is so clever. I always thought snoods were meant to keep dogs ears & neck warm in Winter, I hadn't considered the benefits of keeping dog ears out of their food! Bentley looks so adorable in his little snoods.

Absolutely love it! I could use those for a couple of long haired poodles. 🤣
