BFTB NETWoof News September 23, 2019

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the week of September 23, 2019. Today is the first day of autumn but we aren’t feeling it here in Texas. Paisley will have the national forecast after the news. Let’s toss it to Pierre for our top story.”

Pierre Westie: “A couple from Washington state went on a four-day vacation to Montana and brought their 7-year-old Border Collie along. They left Katie in the hotel room while they went out to eat. When they returned, the unthinkable had happened. Their beloved dog was not in the room. Rushing to the front desk they were told she had walked out the doors about four hours earlier.

The couple searched until the wee hours of the morning. The desk clerk helped print fliers and got the word out on local social media. Katie was nowhere to be found but that didn’t deter her people. The wife quit her job as a postal worker to search for her best friend. They were kept hopeful with sightings, but the dog was skittish so catching her wasn’t going to be easy.
After an exhausting 57-day search, luck went their way when someone called to report Katie was in their front yard. Hurrying over they discovered she had once more taken off. They began walking in the neighborhood calling her name. With the help of a community and a never give up attitude, she finally found her sitting under a tree and the two were reunited with lots of kisses and tail wags. Katie was taken to the emergency vet where she was diagnosed with dehydration and starvation. She is receiving the best of care and is expected to make a full recovery.
Tell us, what lengths would you go to find a lost pet?”

Bentley: “You know, there are some things that people should just instinctively know. Alas, as news reporters we find that is not always the case. Take this next story as an example.
A woman in Colorado Springs spotted an injured adult male bobcat while she was driving. She stopped and carefully wrapped the big cat in a blanket, gently setting it in the backseat of her car.
She sounds like a good Samaritan, right? Wrong! Her 3-year-old son was in the backseat too. She called the district wildlife office and asked them what she should do. They told her in no uncertain terms to get herself and her baby out of the car. An officer was dispatched who used a trapping device to remove the bobcat from the vehicle. The poor animal was hissing and trying to fight even though it had severe internal injuries. Sadly, it had to be euthanized.
Just a reminder…NEVER put up injured wildlife and put them in your vehicle. Call local authorities for assistance.”

Pierre: “Do you ever imagine how you’d spend your money if you were suddenly a billionaire? I’d like to think we’d handle it sensibly and help others. Something like Naples billionaire and philanthropist, Tom Golisano recently did to help those affected by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.
He donated his yacht to deliver supplies and rescue dogs. It transported 30 tons of supplies, including water, food and sanitation kits. They rescued 50 dogs that were left homeless after their shelter was destroyed in the hurricane.
It is always nice to see the 1% take care of those in need. Way to be awesome, Mr. Golisano.”

Bentley: “I’d be the same sweet fellow I am today if I suddenly became a billionaire. If anyone wants to give me a billion so I can prove that point, well...okay.
Our last story is one of the few times we will discuss politics and elected official on this newscast. That’s because we are barking about the mayor of Idyllwild, California who happens to be a very distinguished Golden Retriever named Maximus Mighty-Dog Mueller II. He was elected in a landslide election back in 2014. He has served faithfully ever since.
Idyllwild is a non-incorporated town so it can’t have a human mayor. The local animal shelter came up with the idea of a fundraising election with dogs and cats. Max was the overwhelming favorite running on a platform of unconditional love and random acts of kindness. The election was pawsome and raised $31,000 at a $1.00 per vote.
Let’s see if Paisley is out of the doghouse with this week’s weather forecast.”
Paisley the BFTB NETWoof News Weather Lab
Paisley the Weather Lab: “Welcome to autumn, y’all! This week is going to be a wet one but fortunately not as wet as last week was around here in Houston. We want to start by saying how much we appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers on our behalf. Our neighborhood received a lot of rain on Thursday but was limited to some minor street flooding. Downtown Houston and other areas were not so lucky. We stand #HoustonStrong.
This week’s rain will be pretty much all over the map. Here in the south, we will be warm and muggy with a few storms. The west coast can expect nice days with warm temperatures. The Pacific Northwest and across the northern states, it’s going to rain. As a matter of fact, the center of the U.S. is going to have scattered storms too. As we move along the east coast, New England will be nice but storms move in around New York. The Carolinas will be cloudy. Florida sounds like the way I enjoy my cinnamon rolls…hot and sticky! Hee hee hee, that’s a little meteorologist humor.
Seriously, it is the beginning of a new season. Let’s embrace our pumpkin-spice flavored world that is known as fall and have a great time. Remember to listen to your local stations for weather updates and warnings.”
Bentley: “That’s our newscast for this week. We really appreciate you stopping by to share a smile with us.
This week we will be publishing a special post for Remember Me Thursday and hope that our fellow bloggers will join in to shine a light on the pets in shelters and those who never find homes.
We also have badges for some important days this week courtesy of Zoolatry. You are welcome to use and share them on social media without giving her credit. She’s just awesome like that!
Have a wonderful rest of your day and be sure to grab yourself some happy.”

  4. A nose work friend left her dog in its kennel in the hotel room. She came back and he was gone. He had busted out of the kennel, opened the room door because it was a lever handle, gone to the lobby and walked out the front door. She searched all night and finally found him. Scary stuff!
