Easy Dog Cookie Recipe

I wanted to share the other recipe that I used in celebrating Bentley’s birthday.  These are easy and the boys give them a paws-up.  It is really just a basic dog treat recipe with a special ingredient.
Bentley’s Birthday Bones
½ cup Cornmeal
6 Tbsps. Oil (I used canola)
2 cups Whole-Wheat flour
2/3 cup Water or Broth*
Preheat your oven to 350˚.  Mix well.  Roll your dough to approx. ¼” thick.  Cut into the shape of your choice with a cookie cutter.  Bake on parchment paper for 35-40 minutes.  Let cookies cool completely before decorating.  Store in tightly sealed container or refrigerate if frosted.
*I used 2 Tbsp. of The Honest KitchenWinter Warmers (available in my giveaway) to 2/3 cup of hot water.
4 oz. Plain Yogurt
2 Tbsp. Favorite Flavor *non-alcoholic vanilla is yummy

Whisk ingredients together with a fork/whisk until smooth.  You can add a few drops of canola oil to thin the mixture if necessary.  At this point, you can spread the entire surface of the cookie with icing.  If you want to get creative, you can use a cake-decorating bag with a #2 tip.  You can write your dog’s name, do outlines, hearts, or anything else that you can draw.  If you have ever decorated gingerbread people or a gingerbread house, it is the exact same technique. When our kids were young, we always baked gingerbread people and built a gingerbread house.  We put lights inside of the one in the photo. #greatmemories
*Let the frosting harden and watch as your pup inhales them with no appreciation for your mastery of cookie decorating.

Bentley and Pierre mentioned the Insane Inflatables 5K Run/Walk being held this Saturday at L.S.U.S campus.  We are not running, but I hope to try one of the obstacles.  The Humane Society of NWLA was chosen as the give back charity and receives $5 of each registration fee.  Of course, you can always donate more at the end of the race.  If you are not interested in participating in the 5K, you can help by volunteering.  That is what I am doing and I am so excited.  They will have obstacle courses for children and adults.  It is a dream come true for those of us who missed the inflatable bounce houses at birthday parties by several decades.  For easy entry to the 5K, click here.  To volunteer, click their Facebook link below.
The HSNWLA is a fabulous no-kill shelter.  This is the time of year they need volunteers and donations.  If you have blankets, towels, sheets, or dog toys, please drop them off.  These dogs won’t have a home for Christmas, but they are loved and cared for by great people.  A new toy or warm blanket would be so nice.  To see some of the adorable dogs they have for adoption, view and follow their Facebook.

"Smells like an awesome gift and it's MINE!"
Bentley wanted to say something special.
Bentley: “Oh my!  Just when I thought my birthday fun was over, here comes the axe-murderer deliveryman.  He was carrying the cutest box with a dog’s face on it.  I knew it was for me.  What I didn’t know is that it was a birthday present!  Yippee!  You won’t believe what was in it.  My awesome friends at Purina sent me a bag of Purina One Vibrant Maturity for dogs 7+.  I also have some Beggin’ Littles and a bag of ProPlan Sport Training Treats.  Now, you would think that is plenty of gifts for one package, but Purina did not stop there.  Further inspection revealed I have a KONG Air Dog Tennis Ball and a KONG Quest.  To top it off, I even got a birthday card just for me.
Thank y’all so much Purina.  It was such a bodacious surprise!  You guys ROCK!  XXOO
