If you follow Barking from the Bayou, you are aware that Bentley is terrified of thunderstorms and fireworks. In other words, this dog won’t hunt! We have been using the SmartPetLove Safe and Sound Harness™ on him at the first inkling of thunder approaching. It has a heartbeat that immediately calms Bentley. It is nothing short of amazing. I highly recommend it.
Even though the harness is incredible, SmartPetLove is best known for their signature Snuggle Puppy™. It is an adorable plush puppy with a cavity in the belly to hold the beating heart simulator. You can also add a heat pack for several hours of comforting warmth. The heartbeat pulsates and provides comfort and reassurance for your pet. Dogs are pack animals and are soothed by their mother and others in their pack’s calming heartbeat. The Snuggle Puppy will recreate the intimacy of snuggling with another living animal. The two AA batteries (included) last up to two weeks with continuous 24/7 use. If you use the heat pack, it will last for 24 hours. You can also fill the drawstring pouch that is included with dry rice and microwave it for 30 seconds. Place the warm bag inside the puppy’s belly along with the heart and watch your pet instantly relax. There is an on/off switch on your heart to help prolong the battery life.
We decided the best way to test out our new Brown Mutt Snuggle Puppy would be on Bentley’s first long distance road trip. He doesn’t mind traveling, but the beginning of all our trips entails some anxiety and whining. What better way to see the effects of the calming Snuggle Puppy than to use it on a ten-hour car ride? This time when we loaded him in his kennel, we put our Snuggle Puppy’s heartbeat “on” and placed it with him. The silence was golden! Not only did it calm Bentley’s trip anxiety but it provided a cushy pillow for him. Since returning from our trip, Bentley has decided that Brown Mutt is his new best friend. He carries it around and puts it on his bed to snuggle with for naps. I don’t keep the heart inside but have it ready for our next storm, car ride, or the dreaded Fourth of July fireworks.

Never heard of anything like this and it sounds really amazing. Bookmarking.
ReplyDeleteThe dogs have been Ok with thunderstorms lately, but fireworks really scare Cricket, and we'll be dealing with that way too soon. This sounds like it's worth a try for that and for her car anxiety as well.

what a cool product!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a really good product, even older dogs are comforted by the sound of their mama's heartbeat. My Husky is scared of thunder as well as fireworks, she finds a corner and hides!
