Celebrating International Dog Biscuit Day

Bentley: “Hey Pierre, guess what we are celebrating today.”
Pierre: “Is it my birthday? Will there be cake?”
Bentley: “It is not your birthday and there is no cake. It is International Dog Biscuit Day so there will be treats!”
Pierre: “That is almost as exciting as my birthday. I love dog biscuits. I wonder who invented these tasty morsels of goodness.”

Bentley: “It is funny that you should ask. The first commercially made pet food was a dog biscuit in England way back in 1860. An American named James Spratt was in London trying to sell lightning rods when he saw dogs eating left-over biscuits from ships. He decided that he could improve on that idea by carefully mixing wheat meals, veggies, beetroot and meat. It wasn’t long before Spratt was selling his treats to people for their sporting dogs.”
Pierre: “Of course, throughout the years, recipes have been improved upon and there are countless dog biscuit companies throughout the world. I love the smell of fresh baked dog biscuits.”
Bentley: “Nothing says lovin’ like homemade treats in the oven. Let’s go ask Mom to make us some celebratory dog biscuits! I’ll even help lick the bowl.”
Here is a great recipe that your best friend is sure to love.
Happy International Dog Biscuit Day!

Pawsome recipe; it's similar to the ones my huMom makes but she uses coconut oil & bananas. I used to take my CBD oil in them to help manage my seizures. I'm on a break from CBDs while I adjust to my new meds. Have a wooftastic Nation Biscuit Day Bentley & Pierre!

  17. I loved reading about the history of dog biscuits! It's nice to see dog owners treated their dogs to biscuits as early as the 1800's.
