Once upon a time on a bayou far, far away lived a Basset Hound and a Westie.
Bentley: “Hey, is this story about us? You forgot to say that we were handsome. Can you make me the king, maybe? I’ve always thought I should be a king.”
Once upon a time on a bayou far, far away lived a handsome Basset Hound and Westie. These kings were loved by all of the bayou animals.
Bentley: “Okay, there can’t be two kings. Make Pierre a prince or a court jester.”
Once upon a time on a bayou far, far away lived the handsome King Bentley and his best friend, Prince Pierre. They were loved by all of the bayou residents. It was a beautiful and safe place to live. The king and prince decided they should throw a huge gala in hopes of finding Bentley's true love. A king needs a queen.
Bentley: “My true love is food. Will this be a catered event? Are there going to be any bayou babes at the shindig? Why do you keep sighing like that, Mom?”
Once upon a time on a bayou far, far away…yadda, yadda, yadda. The Bayou Ball was the most exciting thing to happen in a long time. All of the bayou beauties had hopes of becoming the true love to our handsome bachelor. As the day of the event drew closer, the bayou chefs spent their time creating drool-worthy dishes for the guests. The Bayou Boutique was swamped with ladies trying on the perfect gowns. It was going to be the grandest gala they had ever known. King Bentley had summoned the Bayou Band to perform their greatest hits. The castle was decorated in bright colors of purple, green, and gold. Even the alligators were excited and promised to be on their best behavior.
Bentley: “Wait just a flea flicking minute! Who invites alligators to a party? They will eat all of the hors d’oeuvres and possibly a few of my guests. Can we change them into something less intimidating?”
Me: “Is that better?”
Bentley: “Yeah, I’m thinking some of the guests and a certain prince will lose their minds when tree rats show up on the dance floor. Surely, you remember what happened at that church in Pascagoula, Mississippi when a squirrel went berserk. Just sayin’.”
The night of the Bayou Ball finally came and the guests began arriving dressed in their finest collars and clothes. King Bentley had asked Prince Pierre to act as his lookout and to let him know when a certain beautiful GBGV arrived. She was surely the fairest on the bayou but he had only seen her from a distance. He knew that she was his one and only, it was just a matter of time before she knew it too.
When Bentley heard Pierre let out a loud howl followed by a wolf whistle, he knew that his dream girl had arrived. She was just as gorgeous as he remembered. Swiftly walking over, he asked her to dance. It felt as if his feet were lighter than air as they twirled and dipped their way across the dance floor. The magical evening lasted until the clock struck midnight. That was when his true love scurried out of the ballroom and down the steps. King Bentley followed in hot pursuit but it was too late. She was gone and the only thing left to remember her by was a diamond-encrusted collar. “Pierre, I want this collar tried on every maiden in the kingdom. The girl that it fits will be my future queen. Make haste, there is not a minute to waste.
Bentley: “I think I know where this is going. Why didn’t I just get the girl’s name and phone number? Did I even check to see if the collar had a tag on it with her information? How many maidens are in this kingdom? This could prove to be a long drawn-out process. Why are you rolling your eyes at me?”
The King and his friends put their noses to the ground and began sniffing for the mystery girl. Dogs have a tremendous sense of smell and immediately picked up her trail. They arrived at her doorstep shortly after she got home. Her little sister Bailie answered the door. After explaining the situation to her, the young GBGV barked that she recognized the collar. That is when Bentley’s dream girl, Emma appeared at the door. Not wanting to take the chance of losing her again, he immediately knelt down to ask for her paw in marriage. She nodded and they sealed the deal with a kiss. Of course, they lived happily ever after.
Bentley: “Whew! You had me worried there for a minute. I love a great fairy tale.”
