Appreciate What?!?

Pierre Westie: “Due to the importance of bringing you the best news around, we missed paying homage to the evil beloved tree rats squirrels. That’s right, January 21, 2019, was Squirrel Appreciation Day. Can you believe those glorified rodents have a day dedicated to them? It always makes me scratch behind my ear to think about appreciating a squirrel.
It’s obvious that a lot of people like squirrels. Some fill feeders for them in their backyards and others go to parks with bags of peanuts to hand out to the little beggars. Did you know that NYC had its first ‘Squirrel Census’ in Central Park last October? The numbers should be out this spring but I’m guessing it is a bazillion. Central Park is huge with a gazillion trees!
Here is what I don’t understand about squirrels. Why the heck can’t they make up their minds? Are they going up the tree or down? Have you ever seen one try to cross the street? Sheesh! Going…not going…running into the street a little way…nope, nope…back up the tree! Seriously, it is enough to drive this Westie into a frenzy.
Our new yard doesn’t have trees but we do have lots of squirrels on our walks. I don’t know about everything being bigger in Texas, but these squirrels are enormous! It’s probably a good thing that I can’t chase them, they might stand their ground! Anyway, here is my annual presentation of Ode to a Squirrel.
If you see a squirrel today, tell them you appreciate their squirrelly-ness.

They can be fed as often as needed. For small pets, it is recommended to give one small chew for every 10 pounds of weight. Large pets can eat one large chew for every 40 pounds of their body weight. If your pet doesn’t eat chews, you can always use Treatibles oil or gel caps.

  4. We find this day dedicated to these pests dreadful. They are so mean to dogs, always teasing us. We celebrated by trying to capture a couple!

  8. Well, let's see how we can do this! OK, we will appreciate the squirrels IF they will stay OUT of our yard and hide their nuts in someone else's yard.

  13. Love your Ode, Pierre! We had SO many squirrels around this summer, it was crazy. They were everywhere, and a lot met unfortunate demises on the roadways. Ironically, we're not seeing many at all this winter. We think they prefer the neighbor's yard now, since she has bird feeders. They're lazy too! :)
