Waiting For the Walk

The Bayou Boys love to go on their walks. We never say the word “w-a-l-k” in front of them or they begin their “We are going on a walk” dance. This dance makes preparing to leave the house a challenge.
Bentley: “I wouldn’t hound you so much, but you are sooooo slow! All we need is our harness and leash. Why do you insist on packing a bag?”
Pierre: “Personally, I think our little pre-walk dance is amazing. Along with my vocals, it is a very inspiring performance. What all are you packing in the bag?”
Me: “That is a very good question, Pierre. I know y’all would be happy to head out the door the second you realize we are going. It’s the reason we don’t tell you that we are fixing to go. There are certain things we always carry on our walks.
Harness
Leash
• Bottled water
Bentley: “I guess that you are right. We do need all of those things for our walks. It is especially important to bring water for us to drink or if you need to clean an unexpected injury. You do carry the necessary medical supplies for us, don’t you?”
Me: “I don’t carry medical supplies on me but we do have a pet first aid kit in the car. Just be careful and don’t get hurt. Watch where you are walking and don’t get too far off the trail.”
Pierre: “You can count on us! Can we leave now???”

  3. I get nutty when mom is preparing us for walkies too. I grab stuffies and race through the house with them trying to get her to chase me!

  5. In the morning we pace around while mom gets ready. In the winter it takes her a long time to get all her gear on to keep her warm. Happy walking.

  6. Blogger must have been doing something weird because a number of blogger bloggers are having problems with photos posting.

I do that very dance when I awake to see the bright sun and temps above 50...it means outside walking for me too

  8. I meet plenty of doggies while on my evening neighborhood rambles, and appreciate when the human stops to hold their dogs, or moves to give me a clear path, when they know that the dogs are going to try to jump on me! I often walk to the other side of the street, just to give dogs and their humans space.

  12. My mom also takes FOREVER to get ready. I do not dance while I'm waiting. I stare at her and refuse to get up till I'm sure it's time to roll.

  14. It's always a long dance getting ready for w-a-l-k-s especially in winter when we all have to bundle up.

  15. I constantly have to tell Luke to "hold still!!" while I try to put his coat and harness on. He gets so excited!
I try to figure out which season takes the most work to get out the door...they are all challenging!

  16. Our three rescued Treeing Walker Coonhounds are crazy when it comes to walks. It's impossible for one person to take all three at the same time, but of course anyone left at home gets especially crazy until the other dog(s) get back. I think they are learning how to spell the word walk.
