Thursday's This 'n That

This
week has been really busy and exciting.  I was able to promote PetSavers from a first-hand perspective.  The adoptable dog I fell in love with on my visit and had originally planned to feature on Tuesday’s Tales found a family on Monday.
That makes me feel good.  I am so happy for Dixie and her new family.  I hope it works out and they have a lifetime of happiness and wagging tails.
This is hopefully not a premature announcement, but it appears that my feedburner is working once again. If you have signed up for my blog via email, you should be getting deliveries again.
That could change without notice or if I hold my mouth a certain way.  I have yet to figure it out, but I have my fingers crossed that it is set correctly at this point.
This is something exciting I want to share with you.  When I decided to change my blog to Barking from the Bayou and concentrate on dogs, my page views were around 5,000 for the three months I’d been blogging.
That number as of tonight is 10,977!  That means I’ve had more visits since “going to the dogs” in early December than I did from September thru that fateful day!
This proves two things to me…I have definitely found my niche and I love it!  Also,
That pet people are the nicest, friendliest people in the world!!  Thank you all for your support!
This is the beginning of Mardi Gras season and Louisiana celebrates in a big way.  Of course, New Orleans is the first city that comes to mind but there are parades held all over the state.  Shreveport has several parades that draw thousands of people and the crowds grow every year.  We also have a parade especially for pets, the Krewe of Barkus & Meoux Pet Parade.  This year’s theme is “A Wonderland TeaPAWty.”  Last year was our first year to participate and it was so much fun.
The gang had a blast at last year's parade!
That means we will definitely be joining in to “let the good times roll” once again.  The money collected goes to benefit abused, homeless, and neglect pets.  The Krewe works throughout the year educating, providing help, and fundraising to make life better for animals.  If you live close enough to make this parade with your pet or just to observe, it is a great event.  For more information contact http://www.animalkrewe.org/parade.htm
This is a quick and easy toy you can make for your dog out of an old t-shirt.  I found the instructions on Pinterest.  http://blog.diynetwork.com/maderemade/how-to/easy-to-make-doggie-toys/ All you need is an old tee shirt and a pair of scissors.  Cut the shirt into twelve 2” wide x 18 – 24” length strips.  Gather the strips together and tie a knot at the top, leaving some out of the end to fringe.  Separate the strands into three groups of four, and braid them together.  When you have reached the end, tie another knot.  Presto, you’ve made a new tug o’ war toy!
That is simple enough and best of all it’s free!  I think this would make a great project for a group to help supply some fun toys for a shelter.
This is a blog hop hosted by 2 Brown Dogs and Ruckus the Eskie.  Sadly, it is the last This ‘N That Thursday.  I can’t thank them enough for the opportunity to share a little of this and that with you.
That makes me sad, but there is a silver lining!  Ruckus the Eskie is hosting Thoughtless Thursday beginning next week!  Now, I consider that very thoughtful!  In honor of our last hoorah, please hop to see what is on my blogger friends’ minds listed in the hop.

Great job on your page views! Mom used to bid layovers in New Orleans during Mardi Gras (years ago) and says it was a totally wild and crazy time! Have a pawsome Thursday!

    1. Hi Emma, Tell your Mom that I am learning how to navigate the technology side of blogging out of sheer desperation! I'd get one part working and the other would mess up but somehow the cyber gods smiled or took pity on me and it synced together. You would look great in a Mardi Gras costume, purple, green, & gold would be fabulous colors for you!

    1. Laika, I hope Dixie will be very happy. She looked like a cartoon character and had such a sweet personality. I'm sure she will bond quickly with her new family!

    1. Thanks Meghan! I knew that I was keeping all of my old t-shirts for some reason. They seem so easy and quick to make. I think I can make them faster than a lot of the toys I've bought have lasted before being totally ripped to shreds. : )

I am SOOO PROUD OF YOU!!!! And I am so glad that Dixie got a home. That three legged Maltese cross that I fell in love with at the shelter got adopted too . . . so my temptation is now gone . . . though I would have loved to have had her, Colin would have been jealous!

    Huggies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. You do a great and creative job at your tnt posts, I'm going to miss them but excited to see what you will do with thoughtless thursday. Great job on getting your views up there. of course everyone wants to read and see dogs! I was in New Orleans once two years ago in the end of Feb, don't know if I could brave the actual mardi gras but I loved my time there.

    1. New Orleans is a great time but I don't think that I'd go near the French Quarter during Mardi Gras. The parades here in Shreveport have gotten too crowded for me! The pet parade is wonderful though. All of the people and animals are super sweet and friendly. The dogs all got along, no snarling or posturing at all.

I'd love to hear from you! Bark back!
