Thunderbirds Take to the Sky

Barksdale AirForce Base “Defenders of Liberty” annual airshow and open house was held Saturday.  Unfortunately, due to severe weather approaching, the two-day event turned out to be one day only.  The base first opened its gates for the public tour of the Air Force installation in 1933.  You can see firsthand spectacular aerobatic performers, incredible military planes, meet the pilots, and support our local base.  The show was not held last year due to federal budget constraints.
Barksdale is the home of B-52 bombers so seeing them in the sky is common.  Today though, the sky was filled with parachutes, bi-wing and single-wing acrobatic planes, a simulated dogfight, an F-22 Demo team and the THUNDERBIRDS!  It has been several years since the Thunderbirds precision flyers have graced our skies.  They are definitely awe-inspiring. Click here to see photos ofthe performers.
This year, we didn’t have to brave the crowd of 150,000-200,000 (two-day attendance).  Our son and his wife bought a home in perfect viewing of the entire air show.  Even better, he grilled a lot of tasty burgers, chicken, and other mouth-watering meats for family and friends.  It was a great day to sit in the yard and gaze at the heavens.  One thing is for sure, the United States Air Force at Barksdale makes you proud to be an American.

Thunderbirds were the most magnificent birds
in our sky on Saturday.

  7. I have heard of them. Here in Ky , we have the Blue Angels. Their planes are blue and they do similar maneuvers in the air. Its always fun to watch them but those planes can be loud. We seen them when we were in Louisville, Ky for Sissy Sarah's birthday. I got to watch them right out my hotel window. Best seat evah!

  12. That is so cool!! What a fun day to be able to watch it with family while having a BBQ. Whenever we go to the Nascar race, my favorite part of the pre-race ceremonies are the flyovers....it's fun to wait and see what it will be every time. They are just so impressive!
