52 Snapshots of Life: Week 2 ~ #Music
I
try very hard not to be a pack rat. (No offense to my rat friends) One episode
of hoarders and I am cleaning closets.
There are certain things that I will never part with and many of those
things belonged to my grandmother. She
passed away when I was young, but I remember her and cherish those memories. One of the main things I used to love was
listening to her play the piano and the organ.
I am glad to have some of her sheet music. We have framed several pieces, but these are
some of the others that I think are really cool.
The
beautiful woman in the photo is my “Nana” when she was young. Her name was Dimple Desdemona, but her
friends called her “Dimp.” I’ve always
felt she was my special angel.
The sheet music from top to bottom:
Suez is an Oriental Fox-Trot
Romance. The lyrics were written by Will
Pancoast, with the music by Ferdie Grofe and Peter DeRose. Triangle Music, NY cir. 1922, published this
sheet music.
Good Night
Sweetheart
dubbed “The Favorite Song of the King and Queen of England” is one of my
favorite pieces of sheet music I have. It
is a 1931 piece of sheet music with the dreamy Rudy Vallee on the cover.
Jealous circa 1924
Frederick Manning sheet music. This
piece has my grandmother’s signature and someone in N.Y. with the date Aug. 1, 1924
Yes Sir! That’s My Baby! copyright 1925 Words by: Gus Kahn Music By:
Walter Donaldson Irving Berlin, Inc. Music Publishers New York
I Loved You Then As
I Love You Now was
the theme song for
Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer production “Our Dancing Daughters” starring Joan Crawford. That is her photo on the cover. Circa 1928

ReplyDeleteI bet she really was your special angel :o) It's great that you have this wonderful things! I remember Yes Sir, that's my baby, my grampy sang it sometimes to my granny to make her angry... they never shared the story behind this song, but it must be a gross one, that my granny always turned into a nuclear mushroom when she heard this song :o)

ReplyDeleteThat was a really cool way to tie both blog hops in together. What special memories those are. My sister has a lot of my Mom's old sheet music, but I don't think there's anything quite that old! It's still fun to look through though.
