Does your holiday trip over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house include your dog? Here are some interesting facts about traveling with your dog this season thanks to my friends at Kurgo®.
Bentley and Pierre ride in their kennel in the back of our SUV whether we are going across town or across the country. They are able to lie down and sleep or sit up and look out of the window. It is safer for all of us. I know how fun it is to let your dog ride in your lap or in the seat next to you. However, if they aren’t restrained and you are involved in a wreck, your best friend will likely suffer major injuries. Buy a proper seat attachment or some type of restraint for them. Never let them stick their heads out of your window while the vehicle is in motion. Debris can get in their eyes or if you have to slam on your brakes, they can get hurt.

People like to think they are the exception to the rule, until they aren’t. There is a reason they are called “accidents.” Nobody ever expects to have a car wreck, yet thousands happen each day. Keep the joy in this holiday season by making sure your best friend is secure before heading out to the festivities.

This is Thoughtless Thursday’s blog hop with Ruckus the Eskie, Love is being owned by a Husky, and me! No fancy rules and no need to think…just link!
Great post! Luckily this year we are not having any awkward family get togethers so I don't have to worry about travel. When we do go somewhere our dogs are belted into the backseat. We tried crating but they made them both extremely carsick and afraid to get in. Crates are great for some dogs, though! :)
ReplyDeleteI bring my dog whenever possible on a trip. Luckily, he just curls up on the floor of the back seat and sleeps the whole time. I don't think he's very fond of car rides. ~RascalandRocco
ReplyDeleteGreat post! We take our pups everywhere with us!
ReplyDeletewow... I wonder what things people do while driving... I mean it's important to pet a dog... but maybe not really while driving on a highway :o) .... I'm glad my mom belongs to the rarest species of that chart... she is one of the 3%... but we will stop that, the photos are anyway not good, so we rather wait till we stop before we use the cam :ol)
ReplyDeleteWe love to ride along, but Mom is a safety freak, so we are always buckled in whether it is a five minute or five hour ride. We can't stand dogs running loose in cars, hanging out windows, etc. No good. We are also in the back of the SUV, so no distraction there.
ReplyDeleteWe always ride in the back with our seat belt attachments clicked onto our harnesses
ReplyDeleteCocoa has a harness and she tries to get out of it all.the.time!! It really is safer to have her in it for her and for us. If we had started it from the beginning it would be easier I'm sure since she doesn't seem to mind her crate and we did that from day one.
ReplyDeleteWe are posting this same infographic soon on the blog as well!
ReplyDeleteGreat info!

WE are glad you put this up... GOOD reminder... butt it should be done EVERY trip... ALL YEAR LONG... WE have harnesses.. and they are attached to the Seats... with straps... to keep US safe... and we ALWAYS wear them... JUST IN CASE...
ReplyDeleteThere was a major accident locally when a man's Yorkie pup got on the floor under the brake pedal. It made us all rethink our travel arrangements with our dogs.
ReplyDeleteWe ride in the back seat but are tethered with straps hooked onto the seat.
ReplyDeleteYour Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
We wear our harness and they get hooked to the seatbelts

We always travel during da holidays so it's a very timely post!
ReplyDeleteGreat post as car travel can be so dangerous. I have been in several bad accidents and know people who have lost dogs in accidents. I attach Kilo's harness to the seatbelt and I just got a new Kurgo car harness for him. The only problem is it is so strong, it is a bit heavy for walking. It looks like a human rock climbing harness- no wonder it does well in crash tests.
ReplyDeleteWe're staying home this year but Mr. N has a car carrier.
ReplyDeleteWe love Kurgo! I don't think traveling with your pets at Christmas is a good idea, it just depends on the circumstances I guess. Taffy and I each have our own Kurgo harnesses in the back seat, and we are on our third seat cover (mom not happy about that). Loved your Christmas card! Love Dolly
ReplyDeleteGood info. I avoid traveling with the dogs if I can help it.
ReplyDeleteThis is great advice! We don't travel with our dogs much, but I'm trying to do better at keeping them safe even on just short trips.

ReplyDeletewhat a great info graphic, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMy pet peeve is when people let their dog ride in their lap and have the window all the way down. I HAVE seen dogs literally fly out of the car. Luckily, the dog was okay, but It's awful!
