Doin' Double Duty

Happy Tuesday!  We are blogging double duty today.  For the past couple of weeks, we have joined Tasty Tuesdays hosted by Kol’s Notes and Sugar the GoldenRetriever.  Following this hop will lead you to drool-worthy recipes, you can paws at food related reviews, and sniff out all kinds of tasty blog posts.  Yummmmm…Tasty Tuesdays!
We love joining our wonderful friends over at Dogs 'n Pawz, our host the blog hop, Tuesday’s Tails.  It shares stories of adoptable pets and shines a spotlight on the urgent need for us to opt to adopt.  Please hop by to share these deserving pets’ stories.
Our Tasty Tuesday recipes are from the book, The Basset Hound by: Bobbye Land.  It
"Mom warned me not to
dog-ear her pages.  I'll just nose-print
the good stuff about living with me."
is the first book I purchased after receiving Bentley.  If you are thinking about sharing your life with an adorable Basset, you should read this book first.  Since I have started Barking from the Bayou, I find myself reading and referring to often.
Fresh breath...for times like this!
There is nothing sweeter than a face full of love from your fur-child.  That is unless you pup suffers from halitosis (bad breath).  All dogs get stinky dog breath every once in a while.  If your best friend has chronic foul breath, a trip to the vet is required.     Halitosis can signal a potential health risk and needs to be checked.  If your dog just needs a quick breath freshener, this recipe will do the job.

No-More-Bad-Breath Biscuits
2 cups brown rice flour
1 Tbsp. Activated charcoal
3 Tbsp. Canola oil or vegetable oil
1 egg
½ cup chopped fresh mint
½ cup chopped fresh parsley
2/3 cup low-fat milk
Preheat oven to 400˚ (204˚C).  Mix the flour and activated charcoal in a small bowl.  Add the rest of the ingredients, mixing well after each ingredient.  Using a teaspoon, drop the biscuits about 1” (2.5 cm) apart onto a well-greased cookie sheet.  Bake the biscuits for 15 ~ 20 minutes or until they are golden brown.  Cool completely.  Store the biscuits in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
*Activated charcoal should be readily available at your pharmacy or market.

For Tuesday’s Tails, I’d like to introduce you to Beairdsley.  He has been at PetSavers since June of 2011 when he was only six months old.  He had one adoption that didn’t work, so he really needs a secure and loving environment.

Also, the good people at PetSavers are in need of some fence repairs.  A few of theirs are in bad shape and could be a potential problem for the dogs.  If you or someone that you know does fence repairs, please consider volunteering your time to help.  There’s nothing like good Canine Karma!  Contact PetSavers at (318) 636-0400.  Thanks!

We are Barking from the Bayou on these two great hops!

  4. Must be fun having a book about yourself. I can't find any book about GBGV's except the one from my breeder in England. So, do you have super fresh breath now? I have really nice breath since my lip surgery last fall. Lots more kisses these days!

Great recipe....but where do you find activated charcoal?
