Why Your Pet Should be Sleeping on a Kuranda Bed

If you have been to a shelter or rescue, chances are you’ve seen dogs relaxing on a Kuranda Dog Bed while they wait for their forever family. There are excellent reasons for that; they have a wonderful “Donate a Bed” program where you can donate a bed to your favorite shelter at deep discounts and shelters know that the Kuranda brand will stand up against a wide range of environments.
The standard walnut PVC dog bed from Kuranda

Kuranda USA is family-owned and operated. All of their products are manufactured in Glen Burnie, MD. They have been making and selling dog beds since 1987. The introduction of the rectangular bed in 1995 made them a huge success. The poly resin bed came on the market in 1998 with an aluminum version being introduced in 2003.
M. K. Clinton assembling Kuranda Dog Bed
We received the standard walnut PVC dog bed along with a Kuranda Double-Sided Luxury Fleece Pad. I couldn’t wait to put it together so I grabbed the instructions, a Phillips Head screwdriver and an adjustable wrench. It was easy to put together and because the fabric edges are secured in the tubes, it doesn’t slide or move when your dog does. The standard PVC bed holds up to 125 lbs. and the all-aluminum bed can hold 250 lbs.

The PVC tubes are made of 2 different types of plastic that are fused together. The inside material gives the bed its structural strength and the hard outer shell provides a furniture grade finish that is extremely resistant to damage from chemicals. You can clean all of their beds with soap and warm water. Bleach solutions are okay to use on their heavy duty vinyl and outdoor mesh, but it could discolor the smooth and textured nylon fabrics. They can even be hosed off which makes these beds perfect for shelters and rescues.
Pierre Westie and Bentley Basset both on Kuranda Dog Bed
Within a few minutes, the bed was together and peaking the interest of two very noisy dogs. I slid the straps of the fleece pad over the bed’s legs and it was ready for the big test. Would the Bayou Boys like it? No, they LOVED it! Usually, when we introduce a new bed, they take their sweet time trying it. I had barely set it down when they were both trying to call “Dibs” on it.

They are currently holding a fun “Identity Crisis” photo contest where pet parents can submit a picture of their dog caught in the act of sleeping in human spaces without their human! Does your pup stake claim to the couch, recliner, bed, or favorite chair? Grab your camera and snap your entry for a chance to win the Kuranda bed in the color and fabric of your choice. They are a company that gives back to the dog community. That is why they are donating 5% of all sales made by those who enter the contest to the Service Dog Project. This nonprofit group has donated over 100 Great Danes as service dogs for people with severe balance and mobility issues. Read more about the contest on ‘Fido Files Investigates the Identity Crisis.’
Bentley Basset sound asleep on Kuranda Dog Bed
I could not be happier with our new bed and the fleece pad. Bentley is sound asleep on it as I am writing this review. This is a bed that I will recommend to all of my pet parents including my feline friends. Kuranda makes cat beds, towers, and kitty cots, too.

  1. Looks like a lifetime purchase, the elevated style may also keep dogs off the floor, away from a cool draft.

  4. 3 bum swings! 3 more! I loved mine; it was lost in the fire. My huMom was working on the list of items lost & I reminded her of our Kuranda beds.

  8. I might try something like this outside or camping. Right now my dog Victor sleeps wherever he wants to including on my memory foam mattress designed to relieve pressure on my joints. But I do love companies that buy one give one. Great marketing incentive.

  11. I think this would be an especially nice bed to have outside on the deck or patio for the dogs. Since Luke always loves to sit on our lounge chairs he'd definitely love this bed I think (and maybe I can have my lounge chair back...LOL).

  13. Love this bed! The positive aspects are so many and you covered them well. I especially like how well the bed distributes the pet's weight without any pressure points and that there's no stuffing AND that it's super easy to clean.

Great review and I'm glad you're helping get the word out about this great bed. ♥

  16. I've seen these beds all over before...mostly for outside use with dogs, and I just always thought that they wouldn't be all that comfortable for dogs. I guess I was wrong, and I need to look into one for Rugby!

  18. I didn't know they were also helped ease joint pain. Ruby has some aches and pains and I'm sure would love to try one of these beds.

  19. I've been pondering this one quite a bit over time. Eventually we opted for the water cooling bed.

  27. These sound great: 1) I like that one can wash them with soap and water. And the idea that they're good for joint and hips is great - it's nice to see a comfy elevated bed! Cool product recommendation!

  28. Elevated beds are a great way to stay comfortable regardless of the temperature. I've heard some great things about Kuranda beds.

  29. Someone looks very comfortable in that bed! We have a cat blogger who used to make cat beds very similar to this one.

  30. The Richmond SPCA uses and asks for donations of this specific brand of bed. They're great for shelters. My boys like to use me as a bed. :) Or sleep on the hard floor. They're odd. Cute pics!

  31. These beds sound really cozy! I love it when things like this turn out to be easy to assemble. I also love that they are donating to shelters! That is totally pawsome!

  32. We loved getting Kuranda beds donated to the Phoenix county shelter! They're great for many reasons, especially that the dogs don't rip them up like they do cloth beds and the fact that they're raised gets the dogs up off the cold & uncomfortable concrete floor.
