How to Keep Your Senior Dog Heart Healthy

One of the greatest joys in a pet parent’s life is the love of a senior dog. We would go to any length to ensure our furry family members live a long and healthy life. Many times, that means as our dogs and cats age, we need to add certain supplements to their diets. Thankfully, Dr. Harvey’s has many helpful ways to make sure we are doing our best to keep our pets going strong!
Coenzyme Q10 is essential for the cells in dogs and cats’ bodies. It is used for cell growth and to help protect cells from damage. Their bodies naturally produce this antioxidant but may need to be supplemented as they age. It is recommended for them after the age of six. That means both Bentley and Pierre are getting the daily dosage Dr. Harvey recommends.
Daily Dosage of Coenzyme Q10

• For Dogs – each capsule is 30mg.

2-50 lbs. ~ 1 capsule daily

51-100 lbs. ~ 2 capsules daily

101-150 lbs. ~ 3 capsules daily

151-200 lbs. ~ 4 capsules daily

• For Cats

1 capsule daily

A healthy amount of Coenzyme Q10 has been linked with delayed aging. The tissues of the dog/cat stay younger for longer if they have enough of this antioxidant. It is important for cardiovascular health and immune system functions too. For all of the great things it can do, how can you not include to your pet’s diet?
You can add sardines, fish oil and liver to your pet’s meal for an extra boost of Coenzyme Q10. I use all three with Dr. Harvey’s Veg-to-Bowl and Paradigm. It is so simple to mix it in as the protein and oil for their breakfast or dinner. The Bayou Boys love some variety in their meals! Coenzyme Q10 gelcaps can be added to their food but Bentley and Pierre eat them right out of my hand.

  12. I'll have to think about getting Luke on this while he's still young. Cricket already has heart issues now, so I wish I'd known about this when she was younger too.
