Flagology Forever

I’ll be honest with you, nothing excites me more than picking out new things for the house. Decorating is the best way to make a place your own. Adding your personal stamp to the inside and outside is what changes a house into your home. We have hung photos, paintings and put out our knick-knacks so it looks like us. Skipper has shaped up our shrubs and has the yard looking nice but something was missing.
There was no question what we needed…a cool new garden flag with the boys’ photo on it. Luckily, I knew just where to turn. Flagology is my go-to site for all flags. We have several garden flags in their seasonal and holiday themes along with some personalized house flags. It never failed that when I changed my flags, my neighbors would smile and come over to admire them. A cute flag is the perfect conversation starter to meet our new neighbors.
We received a garden flag and doormat from Flagology in exchange for an honest review.  Barking from the Bayou only shares products that we feel would benefit our readers. Flagology is not responsible for the contents of this article.
Pierre Westie: “Say no more, Mom! I am on and ready to design the ultimate garden flag for us. Let’s see what we need to do…
1.         Select a style of flag. We chose the garden flag (12.5”x18”) photo only. You can select from a variety of themes. They also offer many dog breeds if you don’t want to use your own photo.
2.         The next step is to design your flag. At this point, you can add a photo, name or shape to personalize your flag.
3.         It is so simple to align your photo, change the background or change your mind and start all over! Warning: Designing flags can be addictive.
4.         Make sure your flag looks exactly like you want then place your order. It will arrive in 7 to 10 business days. You are going to love it!”
Bentley Basset Hound: “Don’t forget Flagology prints their flags on both sides and you have the their “Flip-It” option where any text will appear in the correct order on the back side. They use Flagtastic™ Fabric that is a premium outdoor fabric. All our Flagology flags still look great after spending time out in the hot southern skies!”
Pierre: “I can see why Mom loves Flagology so much. Look at our choices! There are over 255 garden flags and many of those let us use our photo. They have just as many selections in their 28”x40” house flags. If someone can’t decide, Flagology offers a Create4Me flag. You upload a photo or logo and they will design your flag. The proofs will be sent for your approval in 48-72 hours. That’s impressive!”
Bentley: “Speaking of impressive, which picture are we going to use? We want our new neighbors to become new friends so something fun would probably be best. Hey, this one is a classic. It says we are cool but approachable.”
Pierre: “That was super easy and fun! Let’s order us a new doormat. Our flag will draw people in but we need a proper way to welcome them. There are over 130 designs but let’s use another picture so it’s a one-of-a-kind. I think Dad took the perfect photo for our front porch.”
Bentley: “Oh, great idea! Nothing is more welcoming than a field of Texas bluebonnets. Designing our doormat is the same as the flag. The entire process is easy, and the finished product is exceptional. Just look at the brilliant colors of the flowers.  I really wish that there was a way that our friends could experience making their own Flagology garden flag and doormat.”
Pierre: “Well, I have just the thing! Our friends at Flagology are giving away a garden flag and doormat to one of our lucky readers. We also have a super duper 20% discount code that EVERYONE can use! All you have to do is enter MKClinton at checkout. We’d love to see your Flagology design so tag us in your photos.”
Bentley: “We are so proud of our new flag and doormat from Flagology. Their work is second to none and they offer excellent customer service. As far as I’m concerned, they are the only company to get flags! Be sure to follow them on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Instagram.

Chip Chip Hooray!

Me: “Boys, May is almost over, and we have not done our annual Chip Your Pets Month reminder post!”
Bentley Basset Hound: “An entire month devoted to giving your pets some chips. I love when you accidentally drop a chip on the floor for us. The nacho cheese ones are exceptionally tasty.”
Pierre Westie: “Chips are good, but I prefer her to drop some cake.”

Buggy Over goDog Caterpillars

Pierre Westie: “Let me just say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE goDog® toys. They are some of our favorites and Mom is not afraid to play tug super hard with them. I don’t think I’ve been able to kill one yet. This is our newest plush squeaky toy, The Caterpillar. I can’t wait to get a hold of him. Look at his eyes and tiny fangs. This fella is going to put up a good fight.

Pierre Westie: “We have reported on a variety of rescues in times of natural disasters. Over the past few years, we’ve had stories of floods, fires, hurricanes, mudslides, and tornados. Our top story is a new one for us…lava rescues. The eruption of Kilauea volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island has forced families to evacuate. Many without their animals.

Always make sure they have proper identification. That means a microchip for your cat or dog. Some birds have bands on their legs that can help identify them if they get lost.

The Versatile Blogger

We are so honored and thankful to have received the Versatile Blogger Award from our friends at Noir Kitty Mews. The dashingly handsome Valentine and his mom have a wonderful blog. They recently won the Best Pet Humor Blog at the 2018 BlogPaws Nose-to-Nose Awards! Valentine also shares his home with a beautiful Basset Hound named Bessie. If that isn’t coincident enough, his aunt is a white Westie named Lily Madison! It is obvious that we were meant to be great friends. Thank y’all for our award. ๐Ÿ’˜

Howlin' Over Full Moon Jerky

Bentley Basset Hound: “Aaaarrrroooo! C’mon Pierre and howl at the Full Moon with me.”
Pierre Westie: “I hate to ruin your good howl but there is no full moon tonight. I believe it is a waning crescent which is almost no moon at all.”
Bentley: “I’m not talking about that moon. I’m howling over our new bag of Full Moon® Sliced Chicken Jerky that our pal Chewy delivered. The natural cuts of chicken are slow cooked in small batches from farm-raised, cage-free chickens right here in the good ol’ U.S.A.”

BFTB NETWoof News May 14, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News. We have put our nose to the ground to fetch you the latest in animal news. Let’s check with my co-anchor for our top story. Pierre?”
Dogs reporting the news
Pierre Westie: “City officials in western South Dakota are changing an ordinance that was passed three years ago. It inadvertently made owning dogs illegal within the city limits. The ordinance’s intent was to ban wild and exotic animals within the city. Domestic dogs are currently considered wild animals under their definition of a wild animal. It also includes coyotes, foxes, and wolves. Cats are excluded from the current ban. A second reading of the newly amended ordinance is scheduled for late May but the Lead Administrator assures everyone that is was an unintentional mistake and dogs are welcome in their city.

Pierre's Bed Woes

Westie in large Petlinks bed
We received a Petlinks Rejuvenate pet bed in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are our own and Petlinks is not responsible for the contents of this article.
Pierre Westie: “You might remember last December when I so gleefully showed off my new bed from Petlinks®. A lot has happened since then so let me catch you up on the “bedlam” that has ensued. The problem began when Bentley decided that he wanted my Rejuvenate Supreme Soother™ gel memory foam pet bed for himself. He even tried to pull the senior dog card on me! I know therapeutic beds will distribute our weight to help rejuvenate us while we sleep. It provides cooling comfort and custom support that is awesome for dogs at any age. Y'all know I'm an easy-going guy so I told him he could use it when I wasn't napping. Before I could bark, he had claimed it as his own!

A Few of Our Favorites from Dr. Harvey's

We have been barking about Dr. Harvey’s amazing products since 2015 and there is a great reason for that. We absolutely love and believe in everything they make. That is why we became brand ambassadors! They are not just a company for dogs. Remember, Dr. Harvey’s has a complete line of products for cats and birds too. So if your best friend purrs or tweets, they have you covered!
Today, I am sharing a few of my favorite things from
Dr. Harvey’s:

Puppy Mill Action Week

No dog loving person would knowingly support a puppy mill. They are horrid places where dogs are abused, used as breeding factories and live in squalor. The key is doing your homework before investing your money and your heart in a sick puppy.
*Please note that I will NOT share those gut-wrenching photos of abused, sick, or neglected dogs. We have all seen them and the images haunt me. I refuse to use the shock value to guilt you into action. Instead, enjoy what a healthy happy puppy should look like when you welcome them into your family. This little pup was up for adoption at the humane society.

Bentley Basset Hound: “Guess who came to our house over the weekend. Go ahead...guess. Do you give up? It was our pal Chewy with one of his famous blue boxes. We always get excited when the doorbell rings but when we know it is Chewy, we bark our thanks extra loud!”
Pierre Westie: “It’s the polite thing to do when someone comes bearing gifts. We all know that if it’s Chewy, it’s gonna be epic! That’s when we rush Mom into opening the box and letting us do some sampling.”

BFTB NETWoof News May 7, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for May 7, 2018. We have had our noses to the ground in search of good news. Let’s get right to our top story with my co-anchor, Pierre.”
Dog news anchors with top story on Daring Drone Rescue

Pierre: “Thanks, Bentley. This story has brought both cheers and jeers from social media, but we thought it was interesting. A man in New Delhi claims he heard whimpering from a drain as he was out for his daily walk. Upon further inspection, he realized a puppy was stuck in the mud and muck. The position of the animal would have made it difficult for a human to get down to rescue it so he went back to his laboratory where he builds robots and started working. Six hours later, he had mounted an AI (Artificial Intelligence) arm to a giant drone. The man guided the drone into the ditch and successfully lifted the frightened pup to safety. You can watch the video to decide for yourself if it was a setup or a daring rescue.”

Tummy Troubles

One of the things I meant to do as soon as we were settled was to find a new veterinarian office for the boys. Well, time has a funny way of slipping by and suddenly you find yourself in need of a vet. What to do, what to do…
My defense: I have talked to some neighbors and family members about which vet they use for their pets. I also read reviews and checked out Facebook pages of the clinics closest to our home. Still, I had not taken the time to visit any of them.
Westie asleep in B&W
My predicament: Pierre’s tummy was giving him trouble. He has always had a sensitive stomach. It makes insanely loud noises if it gets empty and he will occasionally throw up some bile. This rarely happens but when it does, it’s usually in the wee hours of the morning. I feed him, and he is fine. We have even been giving him a little midnight snack to help.

Waterless Dog Shampoo from Burt's Bees #ChewyInfluencer

Bentley Basset Hound: “Let’s face it, most dogs dread taking a bath. Well, I am here today to hip you to a cool product from Burt’s Bees. Check this out…you take a bath without actually getting wet. I kid you not! They have gone and made a waterless shampoo for dogs. You can get it from our friends at which mean you can get it fast and for a grrrr-eat price. Hopefully, before the next time you roll in something you’re not supposed to.

BFTB NETWoof News April 30, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for April 30, 2018. No foolin’, it’s the last day of April! We have searched high and low for this week’s stories. For some reason, there seemed to be an overabundance of bad animal news so if you happen to come across good news during the week, please let us know. Let’s turn to Pierre for our top story.”
This is our retired K9 Jake. He was amazing.
Pierre Westie: “We all know that it is dangerous being a police K-9 but due to the opioid fentanyl epidemic, it has only gotten worse. According to a Broward County sheriff in Florida, officers are carrying Narcan in case of a possible overdose due to contact with the drug. Not for themselves but for their dogs.

Mercer Arboretum & Botanical Gardens #TexasTravel

One of the great things about moving to a new state is discovering all the exciting places to explore. This week we went to Mercer Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. It is beautiful and we highly recommend a visit if you are in the Houston area.
Statue of Thelma Mercer
The inscription reads; "A visionary naturalist and innovative horticulturalist Thelma Mercer and her husband, Charles, created a charming and unique garden sanctuary on the original 14.5-acre property that would become Mercer Arboretum and Botanical Gardens on January 8, 1974. Her legacy endures in this place of beauty, serenity, and learning that is enjoyed by all who enter these gates."

Kids and Pets Day

Today is National Kids and Pets Day. It is the perfect time to share a few facts, tips and thoughts on our two and four-legged babies. I believe that children should grow up around pets if possible. Ask most adults about their childhood and it will usually include loving memories of their first dog or cat.
Our granddaughter and Weather Lab Paisley have been best friends since the day Emery was born.

A Tasty Answer to Your Dog's Digestive Health

Do you give your dog’s probiotics? I began giving them to the Bayou Boys after I was hit with a $700 veterinary bill. The final diagnosis? He had an upset stomach and should take some probiotics. I have added a spoonful of probiotic powder to their evening meal. It helps keep their digestive system healthy.
Barking from the Bayou received a bag of ACTIVPETZ in exchange for an honest review. We were not given any other compensation and all opinions are our own. Loving Pets is not responsible for the contents of this post. We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to and affiliated sites
We recently received a bag of ACTIVPETZ™ from our friends at Loving Pets. They are tasty dog treats fortified with significant levels of vet recommended supplements. Bentley and Pierre love the Chicken Jerky Digestive Health + Probiotic Formula. It is always nice to find an alternative that the boys are excited about. The first ingredient is chicken so they didn’t hesitate to take them. I like that they are made in the USA without grain, wheat, gluten, soy or corn.

Talkin' About the Revolution Pet Pro

The greatest thing happened this past February during Puppy Bowl XIV. I’m not talking about the puppies being adopted or hours of adorable television although those things are fantastic! No, what I am referring to happened to me after the Puppy Bowl halftime show. I was doing what I love to do during this show and that is joining my friends on Twitter to discuss the cuteness overload. After the kittens performed, I sent out the following tweet:
You can imagine my surprise when I received a response from Bissell®. They are sponsors of the annual Puppy Bowl and were offering me a Revolution Pet Pro carpet cleaner. I’m sure my neighbors heard me squeal! We were in the process of buying/selling homes, so I asked them to wait until we settled in Texas before they shipped it.

How to Take Your Pet Anywhere as a Flat Pet

Do you love sharing Instagram and FaceBook pics of you and your pets in wild and crazy locations? They are always fun, and I have seen dogs travel to some incredible places. If you are traveling by car and your pet is up for a road trip, that’s great. But let’s face it, there are some places where your best friend is simply not allowed. Neither of the Bayou Boys are able to fly in the cabin of an airplane. That means if our vacation is by plane, they get left behind because we refuse to put them in cargo. Still, I can't help but think of all the fabulous photo opportunities I’m missing!
If only there was a way to bring them…but how?

Texas Bluebonnets Will Brighten Your Day

We are joining Rosy and the gang from LLB in Our Backyard for Flower Friday! Hop over and see what else is blooming in Blogville.
Texas and Bluebonnets go together like peanut butter and jelly, bacon and eggs or chips and salsa. The beautiful bluebonnet flower has been loved in the Lone Star state since cowboys settled the land. In the early days, Spanish priests gathered the seed and grew them at their missions. That is why some people believed the plant originated in Spain. This is not the case since the two-predominant species of bluebonnets grow naturally in Texas and no other place on earth.

I Scream for Ice Cream

The Bayou Boys took the day off so I could share with y’all a most amazing adventure! As we announced on this week’s BFTB NETWoof News, our daughter is visiting us this week. That seemed like the perfect opportunity to hit the road and discover some new places. We hopped in the car and headed to Brenham,Texas. It is the home of Blue Bell Ice Creamery where "they eat all they can and sell the rest!"
Blue Bell Creamery antique delivery truck
The Brenham Creamery Company began in 1907 making butter from excess cream the local farmers brought. A few years later, they decided to make ice cream. They delivered in town by horse and wagon. In 1930, the company changed its name to Blue Bell Creameries in honor of the native Texas bluebell wildflower. They continued to make butter until 1958 when they started making ice cream full time. We are so glad they did!

Here’s the Scoop on Blue Bell Creamery
They churn out 240 little cups of ice cream and
50 half gallons of ice cream per minute!
It takes 50,000 cows to produce the milk for one day’s worth of ice cream.
The work area is kept at a cool 62°.
The ice cream is sent to the blast freezer overnight where the wind chill is -100°

Heaven in a cup! Skipper and I had a scoop of the pecan pralines ‘n cream and Jessica chose mint chocolate chip.
I will admit to moaning out loud with the first few bites until I caught myself!

Blue Bell is only available in 22 states but ranks as one of the top-selling ice creams in the country. If you just can’t resist the urge to try some of the country’s best ice cream, you can order it to be shipped anywhere in the USA, but it will cost you a pretty penny. Check their website for prices but don’t panic, it also tells you how to have a friend ship it to you.
If you are ever in the Houston area, Brenham is a little over an hour away. The Blue Bell Creamery is worth the drive and fun tasty way to spend a couple of hours.
Blue Bell has some wonderful commercials but this is one always made my father-in-law laugh so it is my favorite.

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of BFTB NETWoof News. Our broadcast is a little different this week because most of our stories revolve around the BFTB family. Let me toss it over to Pierre for our top story.”
Pierre Westie: “I can barely contain my excitement with our top story. As many of you know, I didn’t always live with Bentley. As a young dog, I lived with his human sister, Jessica. You can read more about how I came to be an ace reporter on our Pierre’s story tab. Anyway, my mom a.k.a. Bentley’s human sister is visiting us from Washington state. Talkin' Towels

Pierre Westie: “You probably remember Bentley bragging about his new PrideBites canvas bed the other day. He made a big deal out of it having his name on it. I’ll admit that I might have been a little bit jealous. Good old sibling rivalry had me needing to one-up him. That is just what I would happen with a new towel from PrideBites! All I needed to do was convince Mom.

How to Make a Pet First Aid & Evacuation Kit

Do you have an emergency first aid kit for your dog?
No matter how careful we are with our pets, illness and accidents happen. It’s always best to be prepared so you’re less likely to freak out. If your dog is anything like mine, they only seem to get sick in the middle of the night on the weekend or a holiday. I think we can all agree that nothing gets you out of bed faster than the sound of your dog vomiting!

If Your Dogs Can't Do This...

There are few things that irritate me as much as people that refuse to pick up after their dogs. It is International Pooper Scooper Week and I am once again climbing on my soapbox to preach to the choir. I say that because I feel sure that most of my readers are responsible pet parents who always pick up after their dogs. Since this is the case, please feel free to print this post out and share it with those who are shirking their doodie duty.

No Excuses
There is NO excuse for not picking up your dog’s doo. It is just that simple. It’s your dog and unless they can clean up after themselves, the job lands squarely at your feet. Bend down and put it in a dog waste bag. If you don’t have doggie bags, use a grocery store bag, a bread bag or anything you can carry. Don’t walk away and leave it.

Pierre Westie: “You are barking the truth, my long-eared friend! We received a bag of Natural Balance® L.I.T. treats for dogs. Ours is the Potato & Duck formula but there are five other varieties to choose from including Sweet Potato & Venison.”

BFTB NETWoof News April 2, 2018

Bentley Basset Hound: “Hello and welcome to BFTB NETWoof News for the first week of April 2018. We hope that you had a lovely weekend. We have fetched some great reports so let’s get right to our top story with my co-anchor, Pierre.”
BFTB NETWoof News set with Westie and Basset
Pierre Westie: “Our first story serves as a warning to all of our furry friends in Britain. Authorities are urging dogs to avoid getting in the mud due to a deadly disease known as Alabama Rot. There have been 29 deaths so far this year, so it is necessary to take some precautions. Avoid mud if possible but if your dog does get muddy, wash it off as soon as possible. Check for any lesions or wounds and if you find one, go immediately to the veterinarian.
While the exact cause of Alabama Rot is not known, it could lead to kidney failure if not detected early. Figures show 80% of all cases result in death if the diagnosis comes too late for proper treatment. That is a scary statistic!”
